Bottom line: $$$$

ICE arrested and is charging the owners (4 or 5) of the company they raided here last week and ICE said this is just the begining. They also arrested about 160 illegals working for them.

Then I guess we do not deserve to exist, because as hard as it is to swallow, we do need the illegals to work.

Yep, we "need" illegal aliens; just like our country "needed" slaves. Moreover, our country will collapse just like it did when slavery was abolished.

The mantra then was, “who’s gonna pick our cotton?” -- “who’s gonna work our fields?”

And yet we are still trying to figure this out where machinery cannot.

I think everyone on here has always found fault with the employers. That is the "root" of the problem and that is where the government should start. But because they are out lobbying with all their pull and their cash, as usual, everyone will back down. Cash speaks louder than the law.
We do have a program where illegals can come here to work, it's called the migrant workers program, this program keeps tabs on them and they know exactly who is here, if some of these illegals took the time to look into a program like this instead of just walking across the border, they could come here and work and I am sure they would let them work at McDonald's or wherever. I think it comes back to the point, they are in someone else's country. You don't just walk in and start doing whatever you want, you need to ask first. Immigration, migrant worker programs all of these things are respectful in the sense you are asking for permission to be here. I think that is all anyone really wants, to have info on who's here and follow the rules.

Then consumers complain because the price of everything is too high. Business try to cut costs, lay off legal workers, cut benefits, hire creatively (you know the deal), prices go back down or stabilize and consumers are happy again. Oh wait, consumers are complaining about illegal workers, businesses are greedy but are no longer complaining about prices. And so on and so on and so on... This is a topic we will be discussing for the rest of our lives.

That's an argument that I find disingenuous, at best. Looking at the construction industry, I've watched as wages have plummeted by 50% over the last 15 years as employers have replaced legal workers with illegal scabs, and yet you haven't seen housing prices going down, have you?

Then you look at agri-business, and you hear people saying that without illegal labor the price of a head of lettuce would be $10. Lettuce is about a buck a head now, and the cost of labor accounts for about 10% of the overall price. That means that if you TRIPLED the wages paid, the retail price would climb by a whole 20 cents. Talk about a BS argument!
