Paternal ones arrived in 1620, maternal ones arrived in 1915 via Ellis Island. Where was the border patrol to stop them?
My husband's came in the 1630's; guess they are illegal. Mine came from 1800 on; the last of mine came pre-Ellis island, but had to have money, a sponsor and a job waiting... so was that illegal? We have familes all pre-border patrol and ICE.

Well back in 1620 my Native American ancestors were too busy trying to survive than to man a border station on that day that your family arrived
Your ancestors who came through Ellis Island did so legally. They were tested for disease, needed a sponsor, had to prove they were worthy enough to be here and would not be a burden on this nation. I seriously doubt any of your relatives used fake id or stolen ssn's to secure employment or social services. Oh that is right-there were no social services or welfare to be abused by lawbreakers. Please- comparing how your ancestors arrived in America to an illegal alien is just ridiculous. Guess what-there are rules and laws in a developed society. There are some laws that I don't like but that does not mean that I get to disobey them. If I do I face punishment. Why is it that laws apply to everyone but illegals? They get to pick and choose what they like?
Although it sounds like you have a problem with limits on immigration-the USA allows more legal immigrants into our country than all other countries in the world combined. Yet we are the bad guys for wanting a secure border, to know who is here and have comtrolled immigration? It is ok for many other countries to have much harsher laws than us when it comes to immigration? Try legally immigrating to Mexico. Better yet illegally enter Mexico and see how well you are treated and what kind of "rights" you are granted.

Actually my grandfather didn't have a sponsor, and he wasn't tested for disease. He had a few coins in his pocket when he arrived. My grandmother's brother sponsored her, and married her off to my grandfather after she had been here 11 days. She had no one else to care for her, getting married was the only way to survive. She was 16. It wasn't all rosy for immigrants then.
The next time you eat vegetables grown in Florida or California, think about immigration. Think about the workers that picked that food for you. Think about the conditions that they endure because most Legal Americans won't do the job. I suggest you visit Belle Glade, Florida for a real eye-opening lesson. Morgan Spurlock did a fantastic "30 days" on immigration. 30 DAYS Official Website - Only on FX
