Quote:
Under U.S. law, fear of crime is not, in itself, grounds for political asylum.

But the sharp spike in asylum applications from the areas wracked by drug-cartel killings and kidnappings — and the willingness of asylum-seekers to sit behind bars in the U.S. for months while they await a decision — are a measure of how bad things are in Mexico and how fearful people have become.
MSNBC article

That quote from the article is a damning indictment of how Mexico may fly apart------if people are willing to either 'jump the fence' or come here legally and gladly allow themselves to be interred.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this materializes. I was watching CNN tonight, and they reported the fighting at the border with Mexico now rivals that in Iraq. According to the report, more people have died in the past 18 months than the total number of American fatalities during the entire Iraq War.

.....and; due to one of those extreme ironies of history; the pro illegal folks may have won the battle to keep most of the Mexican illegals here in the USA since Mexico may no longer exist. In other words: they would become political refugees by default.

Needless to say: if our government had an ounce of common sense; said refugees would be rigorously integrated into our society-------no more bilingual education, etc.

'Something' also tells me the insolence of a lot of the hypothetical former illegals would shrivel up overnight as well------they would be quite grateful to be here instead of having that 'you owe me' mentality.
