Immigration is said to be a divisive issue, but it really isn't. Large majorities of Americans favor legal immigration, and large majorities oppose illegal immigration.

But the failure to control the process has created a tiger that periodically pounces onto the national stage.

What Americans Want In Immigration (http://www2.highlandstoday.com/content/2008/jul/14/la-what-americans-want-in-immigration/?news - broken link)

It is no secret that most Americans are in favor of legal immigration and against illegal immigration. In my experience, those that tend to be most vocal opponents of illegal immigration are those on the "front lines," whose trade jobs, schools, and neighborhoods are rapidly declining.

Those "in favor" tend to be those living far from areas deteriorating because of the lack of infrastructure to accomodate unchecked immigration, ardent capitalists, and those that sympathize because they share an ethnic or national bond with the illegal immigrants (varies from state to state).

Too; where there are few illegals and/or they really 'fly under the radar'......it is a classic case of 'out of sight, out of mind'.

Americans want some legal immigration, but not the kind of immigration that is just for the benefit of the greedy corporations and other employers who desire unlimited uncontrolled immigration to lower labor costs or benefit from wild growth.

The USA takes in far more legal immigrants than any other nation in the world, our legal immigration system works -- works very very well obviously because we have doubled our population in just a few decades mainly from huge immigration levels.

Immigration to the USA also should not be used as a way of other governments to solve their problems, or as a form of ethnic cleansing like Mexico's government is doing. If there are large problems in particular countries, then they need to look at reform or encouragement of responsible family values and education.

It seems some liberals and conservatives concur that planet Earth can only support a finite (versus infinite) population.

However in the US it seems several liberals think "part of the sum" (i.e. the USA) has infinite capacity versus "sum of the parts" (i.e. plant Earth).
When questioned about USA capacity (i.e. 350M, 500M, 900M) they will not agree to a number (avoid the question).

cut the crap aout all the corporations trying to distroy your living soul. grow up. If you don't like them don't buy their products. ok? And those awful GREEDY corporations usually have to pay their employees, insure their imployees legally with the proper salary and insure that they are doing things legally to insure the safety of their clientell so they don't go out of buisiness . The small companies are usually the ones cheating and unfairly hiring unsuspecting illegal immigrants lower wages than legally allowed and they are not filing their taxes either. So the illegal mexicans are getting the **** end of the stick which is too bad. And newsflash..thats steals from you also. Yea also try living without ANY corporation and see how when you go to the store things are unfairly marked-up because the little mom and pop shop has to make rent this month and the economy is down, try going to a small auto shop run by illegal immigrants that change your tires and they forgot to tighten the lug nuts and your wheel fell off on the freeway. who are you going to go cry to when you want that warranty or want to sue them and you find out they aren't registered with BAR. need i go on. I honestly have to say anyone for the distruction of corporations i challenge you to live without them for a month. I know you wont anyway. You even buy their cars, use their insurance, Pay their medical fees, order out pizza on a saturday night with the friends, drink their beer at parties, wear their clothes.....and so on
