Crystal Dillman, the victim's 24-year-old fiancee, who is white and grew up here, said Ramirez was often called derogatory names, including "dirty Mexican," and told to return to his homeland. "People in this town are very racist toward Hispanic people. They think right away if you're Mexican, you're illegal, and you're no good," said Dillman, who has two young children by Ramirez and a 3-year-old who thought of him as her father.
Put him on ignore. Him and a small minority of illegal supporters are vastly outnumbered here, and in real life by a country sick of illegal immigrants. Unfortunately, many against illegal immigrants may turn to violence as the economy worsens and people look for a scapegoat.
Yes ignore the harsh realities of our vile desire for violence no matter the situation. Then again the article did say that these kids would never have done such an act and the article implied they must have been provoked. Still does not excuse the act no matter if any, one or none were illegal.
I am curious of what 'ethnicity' the assailants were: they too may have been 'protected minorities'. Needless to say: I hope those perps are nailed to the wall in a court of law.
On a more sinister level: assuming that Ramirez was here legally---------the (possible) impending 'race war' scares me.
The irony is that people thought it would be between Blacks and (Anglo) Whites; now, it is as if the two American ethnicities are 'closing ranks' and going after so-called 'others'.
I think the article left out an awful lot. We don't know what the victim did, the article even implied he did something to antagonize the group. How smart is it to be in some foreign country and start mouthing off or threatening some group of locals? That wouldn't be smart no matter what your country of origin is. If an American tourist in Juarez started acting up with a group of local teens, would the outcome be a lot better?

Good point there: I tend to forget (at times) that our media is typically pro illegal/minority.
Why are you so defensive? I just asked a question. You never stated your position either way. Only that you implied that his being illegal prompted the situation and that more was to come.
Who's defensive? You need to go back and re-read this thread, apparently you missed my post.
If it is determined that this was a crime motivated by a hatred for “illegals,” my fears are in fact coming to fruition. Illegal immigration is a huge ticking time bomb; and this, and similar stories, are sad and 100% preventable.
You're right. How reasonable it it to expect Americans watch millions of illegals brought in to lower wages to levels that no one can live in, watch their taxes be raised to provide services to the millions of illegals who gladly accept low paying jobs because they'll take food stamps, WIC, Medicaid and free housing to make up the difference.
We've got American youths who cannot find employment because illegals are brought in to work cheap. Large numbers of unemployed youths with nothing to fill their time is a bad situation, no matter what the race or ethnicity of the youths. The worst thing for older teens is to have no hope of jobs, nothing to do to fill their days. They are being told if they can't speak fluent Mexican Spanish, don't bother applying for a job.
We're having the Mexican flag shoved in our faces, being told that our land belongs to Mexico. It's a stress that many aren't going to put up with for long. Many of us will blog and say why uncontrolled and illegal immigration is so bad for this country but there are those who won't say it that way. Most of us have not lost our jobs to illegals, we're not in jobs yet that require Mexican Spanish fluency, we aren't desperate or bored or hopeless. Obviously we don't and won't participate in violence but we all know full well there are those who will.
