A proposed law aimed at banishing illegal immigrants from Fremont, Neb. — believed to be the first such city-sponsored initiative in the state — has sparked an outcry from a state agency that advocates for Latinos.

Though Fremont's appears to be the state's first elected city council to propose an ordinance that would ban harboring and renting to illegal immigrants, lawmakers in other U.S. localities have introduced similar initiatives.

Bob Warner, the longtime Fremont councilman who sponsored the proposal, said he did so because residents were "sick and tired" of what he said was the federal government's lax enforcement of immigration laws.

He said Fremont residents want their own immigration laws.

"I'll fight to the dying end to do what they want," Warner said. "I don't know why everybody is making a mountain out of something that is very simple."

Pflanz, the Appleseed attorney, said some people in the audience of Latino and Asian descent overheard remarks aimed at them: "There's an illegal. There's an illegal."

"The atmosphere was very hostile to anyone who wanted to oppose the ordinance," Pflanz said.

It's going to be eventually struck down even IF it passes.

I don't hope and pray about something that has not even passed yet, but you guys get excited over every little thing. Some of you are even talking as if the law has passed already.

Heed this piece of advice: blacknight04; many attempts to control/reverse the illegal immigrant menace will fail------but, enough tries will succeed so, if you and/or friends are here in the USA illegally------get out and stay out!

"The atmosphere was very hostile to anyone who wanted to oppose the ordinance,"
People are obviously getting very annoyed with this nuisance. Wonder how long it will be before it gets terribly ugly.

This I will say:

The one thing that worries me is innocent people of any race/ethnicity who look stereotypically 'Hispanic' getting caught in the crossfire ------Indians (both American and East), light skinned 'Blacks' (our Benicar's son is an example), Middle Easterners, Filipinos and many other Asians as well as generic swarthy 'White boys' of any ethnicity. BTW: I am White so I can use that mild 'anti-white' slur to make a point.
