A 22-year-old Mexican woman was sentenced to 16 months in prison this week for trying to smuggle a a 2-year-old girl through a Nogales crossing for money.

On March 6, Ana Lilian Valenzuela-Ramirez, of Nogales, Sonora, came through the pedestrian line at the port with the toddler, who appeared unusually sleepy, a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office said. Valenzuela presented border-crossing cards for herself and the child, who she said was a friend's daughter.

And 16 months was all she got for prison time? This should be a far longer sentence given.

Until we get a wall built, armed guards posted and alligators strategically placed in the Rio Grande, the capture, jailing, releasing and deportation is an exercise in futility.

Despite what the OBL's claim, the people who come here illegallyy hail from a culture of corruption and crime. I agree its a waste of time and tax dollars. This process merely serves to remove them temporarily as they have no problem with coming right back.

This is another illustration of those exemplary family values pro-illegals tout. Steal a child from her family, and “sell” her to scum, with no regard for the welfare of this innocent child, or the grief her family would endure. After all, they probably have, or could have more children. This is despicable. I hope the ladies in jail show her much love.

I could not agree more, JDubsMom!

Once they snub their noses at our Immigration Laws as well as our Border Patrol Authorities . . . what do they have to lose? Does anyone with any common sense whatsoever expect them to honor and/or respect ANY of the laws of our country?

the solution is to fine the living hell out of anyone who provides any service to illegals and cut off all social services to them. that's the only way.

I can't believe we provide social services for illegals. that is just mind boggling. what do other countries care, they are getting rid of a drain on their economy, and creating a drain on ours. trust me, if they have no place to work, no place to live, and no more handouts, the problem will fix itself.

It's one thing if she's selling the child to black market adoption rings where the child might have a chance for a family that wants a young child but all too many of these children end up going for child porn, pedophiles and whatever else.

So much about the open borders is just about money and greed.
