Undocumented immigration will now be considered a minor offense, punishable by fines equal to US$100 to US$500. Illegal immigrants previously faced up to 10 years in prison, though most were simply deported.

Mexican legislators who backed the revision say Mexico’s previous penalties complicated efforts to lobby for better treatment of Mexican immigrants in the U.S.

Activists want more to be done to protect migrants in Mexico, where many are robbed and abused on their way north.

Actually: it sounds to me that Mexico is really starting to 'walk the talk' in its own backyard in asking for more 'lenient' treatment of its nationals here.

Almost as if that nation is starting to realize that the impending tsunami of its returning citizens (and US born Anchor Babies) will lead to social unrest and it attempting to delay its day of reckoning.

Hard to say.

If not for their blatant hypocrisy, they would not change any of their barbaric practices. They simply realize it would be much more difficult to condemn the U.S. for the “mistreatment” of Mexican illegals, while routinely engaging in atrocities against those caught illegally in Mexico. It’s strictly a PR strategy.

Bingo, which is exactly why I posted this farce. What's good for the goose is more than adequate for the gander. Magically the pot realizes that it can't call the kettle racist and abusive and assume they can get away with it.
