Irresponsible of the police officer. And very ridiculous to say that parents cannot travel with their children late at night.

I know a few people who prefer to travel at night because it is easier. Less traffic, less trucks trying to mow you down, less heat/sun, the kids are asleep...

My uncle who is a fed prefers to travel at night...guess he is irresponsible and a bad parent.

I am sure I did at that age too. It is a cultural thing. I was shocked when I heard people put their kids to sleep at 6 o 7. I don't remember ever having a babysitter either. I am sure they are equally flabbergasted when they hear people trusting their kids to babysitters as young as 12. I know I am.

Cultural differences. People who live in towns or Pueblos are usually very tight knit. Everyone knows everyone. For that reason, they leave their kids at home or in front of the house to play with the other neighborhood kids.
