I am in total agreement. I feel that it is a law that has long served its purpose and should be abolished post haste. As for the grandfather clause, I would rescind birth right citizenship to any anchor born past the end of the last amnesty.

Like everything else outdated, the time has long passed to put a stop to the madness known as anchor babies.

That might be sticky at best; we are discussing 1986 here and the oldest Anchors would be age 22 now......I do have a problem stripping away said US citizens' rights since they are already adults.

Myself: I would like to see a arbitrary cutoff for birthright citizenship of; say, January 1 2009 (assuming that both parents were here illegally) but grandfathering in those Anchors born prior to said cutoff date.

As it stands: with more and more illegals fleeing the USA between the increasing hostility (both cultural as well as sanctions laws) against 'em......most of the minor age Anchors will accompany their parents so they would be moot I suspect.

Note to uncle_el: said Germans back in 1930, even if still illegal today (very unlikely) would probably be amnestied since there were here prior to 1986 and their US born children (grandchildren, etc), needless to say, would be safe.

Go to the broadacres swapmeet sometime and see all of the south of border families. 3-4-5 kids. Mom and Dad not wearing rings. If mom is single she collects a check for each kid until they are 18. Welfare is not allowed to question them about anything. Just run the papers threw and get the checks going.

Read up on Ireland,Scotland,England,Gremany and many other countries! They have unloaded their anchor baby laws. Simple they cannot afford them and will not allow the quality of their childrens lives to be deminished. Why does our govt think any less of our offspring.
