Oh poor little illegals are not getting good enough healthcare. We are supposed to feel sorry for them even though they are criminals.

Menendez tours NJ immigration detention facility

By SAMANTHA HENRY | Associated Press Writer July 28, 2008 ELIZABETH, N.J. - U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez toured New Jersey's largest immigrant detention facility Monday, urging Congress to back his proposal for improving detainee health care.

"The responsibility remains with the federal government to ensure that a detention never ends up being a death sentence," he said.

Menendez is sponsoring the Detainee Basic Medical Care bill that would standardize health care procedures for people held in immigration custody. The legislation, and a a companion bill in the House, has been referred to the judiciary committees in both houses.

Menendez said he introduced the measure is in response to nationwide reports of immigrants receiving substandard health services or dying while in custody. He spoke Monday outside the Elizabeth Detention Center of immigrant detainees whose medical conditions worsened because of misdiagnosis, minimal access to outside doctors or lack of timely treatment.

I have to agree with Menendez on this one.....if anyone is in state or federal custody they must be afforded adequate medical care. Whether they are a dealer, rapist, burgler, dui or illegal it doesn't matter. It is the humane thing to do.

We could ask Mexico to foot the bill since it is their citizens... they would "want" to take care of their citizens, right?

No more free medical for prisoners no matter what their immigration status is.

Then again, I really don't feel we should keep illegals within our borders if found committing other crimes.

While I'd love to see all illegals rounded up and deported, our government would never do it. So, we should really be trying to get the second-crime illegals out of the country in such manner that they cannot come back....

Invisible fences (like for dogs)?? Implant a chip and they get a huge shock if they try to hop the fence. Awesome.

No, no, no. Keep them barely alive long enough to get them back to Mexican soil.

Here's an option, Anonymous . . . rather than sentencing the illegals to a slammer, how about a LUXURY SPA or a RESORT HOTEL? ! ! ! !

If we can give U.S. prisoners sex changes, I'm sure it wouldnt hurt to keep an illegal immigrant from dying in government custody.

American citizens die in custody ALL the time, yet I don't see any US Senators sponsoring bills on THEIR behalf.
