Number of illegal immigrants declines by 1 million, study finds | Dallas Morning News | News for Dallas, Texas | Latest News (http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/073008dnmetimmig.19ccbe64.html - broken link)

"The Center for Immigration Studies in Washington said it estimates that the number of illegal immigrants nationally was 11.2 million in May, down from a peak of 12.5 million in August 2007.

Its numbers are estimates, the center said, based on data collected monthly by the Census Bureau on the number of foreign-born adults living in the U.S. The latest such data is from May.

The estimates are also based on the assumption that the “overwhelming majority” of immigrants in the U.S. illegally are Hispanics who are younger adults with relatively little education. That assumption, the report said, is based on “a large body of research.”

take away the incentives, the problem fixes itself. take away WIC next, that would be another couple of million.

I do. After reading numerous articles outlining this very issue, its mostly the economy who's doing all the work. No work = Moving back to their countries for them.

That's why we need to make E-Verify MANDATORY!

I like this comment on the survey results (link above):

"I find it interesting that illegal immigrants are lining up at the Mexican consulate to get proper paperwork to go back to Mexico. Obviously, obeying Mexican law is more important than obeying American law."
