VERACRUZ, Mexico—Two people are dead after a shootout between Mexican police and smugglers driving a truck carrying illegal immigrants.
Police caught up with the truck near the town of Agua Dulce in southeast Mexico. The town's police chief, Jose Atenedoro, says the smugglers then opened fire on officers, starting a shootout and car chase. The chase ended when the truck crashed into a ditch.
Gunfire killed two people, while about 30 of the 42 immigrants hidden in the truck were injured in the crash Monday. Both of the men killed were migrants.
The driver tried to escape, but was caught by police.
Officials say the immigrants were from Honduras, El Salvador and Ecuador.

Why is it acceptable for Mexico to secure its borders anyway it sees fit, and yet the US is racist for wanting to deport (not shoot) its illegal aliens?

Where are all the illegal alien groups? Why aren't they protesting at their local Mexican Embassy? (which won't be far away unless you live in Alaska) Why aren't they marching against the Gestapo tactics of the Mexican police? Or flooding the phone lines to the Mexican gov. with the message that 'no human is illegal' with so many calls that the system collapses? (which shouldn't be hard to do)
What is it with the double standards? It seems like anything the Glorious Motherland does is A-OK while anything attempt we make to enforce our immigration laws is racist, xenophobic and so forth. If we try to deport someone who never should have been here in the first place, no matter how carefully we follow legal procedure, it is met with shrieks of protest. We are breaking up families, we are denying them their American dream, they did not cross the border the border crossed them, the gringo stole their land, etc., etc., etc. While Mexico is free to treat anyone who crosses their southern border illegally any way they want. Talk about hypocrisy!
The Mexican government and authorities can do whatever they want. The thing is they should not be able to make us do whatever they want. This is not Mexico and they should and had better understand that. For 50 years we have had the Israelis telling us what to do and now the Mexicans. That's a hell of a way to run a super power.
Sorry Andreabeth. Your knowledge/experience of Mexico is very limited. I lived in Mexico City 3 yrs and now 12 yrs in Baja. I've been to Vera cruz. The heading of the article says Vera Cruz but in reality Agua Dulce is next to the gulf and half way between Vera Cruz and the Guatamala border. Based on what I have seen, many workers ride in trucks that are overloaded. Chances are the truck came to a military checkpoint and of course took off. Police would not stop or chase a vehicle unless there was a good reason too. All trucks are automatically inspected at all military checkpoints. There is one five miles north of me and see them being inspected (cargo) every time I go to Rosarito. A person should not get too excited on reading news as the truth is not always printed. Stefhen
