People like to point out cases where people have been here 10, 20, 30 years and don't speak English, but they are always immigrants.

I see you really don't know very many Spanish speaking people. I have family that lives in NM and part of that family happens to be related to a family that has been in the NM area since before it became a state, and even owns land that was a land grant from Spain. That whole family speaks Spanish at home, and anywhere else that they can. Yes, the children do speak English when they have to but if you listen to the children, they have a very heavy accent because of still speaking Spanish so much, and English only when they have to. I can also show you many people who have been in this country for well over 15 years and they don't speak English. Why? Because we have made it too easy for them not to is why. I don't care if one is an immigrant or not, if they have been here for as long as 15 years and longer then there is no damn excuse for them not speaking at least a bit of English. This country should make English the official language and English should be the only language that any government, be it local-state-or federal, business anywhere in this country.
