LOS ANGELES -- Companies that open large home-improvement stores in Los Angeles would have to set aside space for day laborers under an ordinance unanimously approved today by a City Council committee. The proposed ordinance was passed by the Planning and Land Use Management Committee, but must still be approved by the full council.
If passed, the ordinance would require new home improvement stores that are 100,000 square feet or larger, or any building or structure where 250,000 square feet or more of warehouse floor area is added, to set aside space for day laborers seeking employment from customers.
The shelters would have to be easily accessible and equipped with drinking water, bathrooms, tables with seating and trash facilities.
Home-improvement stores would also be required to develop a security plan in consultation with the Los Angeles Police Department.
Bethany Leal with the Multi-Ethnic Immigrant Worker Organizing Network, which supports the ordinance, called it an example of "immigration integration."
"By having public and private entities work together to create facilities used primarily by immigrants, individual residents, as well as the whole city, benefit," Leal said.
California is on the verge of disintegration and yet the desires of illegal aliens and their mouth pieces are still getting preferential treatment. . . . wow .. . just wow.
Drinking water, covered shelter and bathrooms? Should we throw in steak and lobster tail while we are at it? I guess we need to make it easier on these lawbreakers. God forbid we enforce the law and deport them.
How about the city make these sites illegal? How about NO Day Labor sites? I guess that would make too much sense and also not be breaking the law.
Common sense and abiding by the law is out but wackiness and breaking the law is in.

Most of them don't even have clean drinking water at home but they come here illegally and demand to live like royalty. It's way past time for the idiots in Washington to stop funding the anchor baby mouth pieces who continue to push their OBL agenda.
What, no shower facilities? No cable TV? I’m outraged that these hard-working illegals are being treated so inhumanely. At the very least they should offer them a continental breakfast. This is an appalling illustration of the mean-spirited and racist treatment illegal aliens are subjected to in this country.
Several years ago, a group of men (legal US citizens) would congregate on the grounds of a DC home improvement store to seek work from patrons. Their presence was deemed “menacing” -- resulting in the passage of an ordinance which made it a misdemeanor offense for them to “loiter” on the grounds of this store.
As a woman, I do agree with the anti-loitering ordinance. It is not a comfortable feeling to have to contend with salacious remarks from groups of men while entering or exiting a store. However, why is it onsidered ‘loitering’ and ‘menacing’ when legal citizens are involved, yet perfectly acceptable by illegal aliens? This is beyond absurd!
What about arresting the customers who are hiring them? And, why the hell are they picking them up at Home Depot stores? What's that about? What about McDonald's?
Isn't it already illegal to do "day labor" in the U.S. - that is, there has to be certain paperwork, minimum wage paid, taxes paid, workers' comp paid, etc?
Why does a cleaning lady (for example) paid "under the table" get caught, and has to pay taxes, and her employer gets in trouble?

........just waiting for the California backlash against the illegals---------when it occurs, it will be very severe.

Agreed. It is illegal. However instead of arresting and deporting them and standing strong against illegal aliens and those that hire them-the city of LA is choosing to aid and abet and make the illegal aliens stay more "comfortable". No wonder the state of CA is in such a mess-talk about messed-up priorities.

Amen . . I finally get the honor of repping you again!

I'm beginnig to wonder if they will all simply just flee. I remember the uproar of 15 years ago, now it's as if they have completely succumb to what they deem a hopeless situation. Why they haven't gotten rid of Villagaroisa and Ahhnold is beyond comprehension.
Interested in hearing your thoughts/reasons why AZ and Nic!
