The big difference between the war in Iraq and illegal aliens is that, as a certain cinematic persona observed, "Someday this war's gonna end.........". As indeed the war in Iraq will, IMO. When we were involved in the Vietnam war many in the country doubted that we would ever manage to extricate ourselves. But we did. Thirty years later we are no longer spending billions a year to fight the Vietnam war. Somehow we will get out of Iraq. It will end up costing us alot of money but the day will come when Iraq is no longer gobbling up US lives and dollars.
However...........illegal aliens are the gift that keeps on giving. If we give amnesty to the millions already here we will end up with:
1. millions more who will get in somehow to await the next serial amnesty
2. millions of uneducated, unskilled citizens who are
now eligible for the full buffet of US benefits (the only reason they use 'so little' now is because they are not eligible for most of the programs, think what will happen once they are)
3. children who tend towards teen pregnancy and dropping out of HS
4. millions who will be collecting full benefits while paying little if any taxes
5. millions more equally uneducated and unskilled relatives who will be brought over under the rubric of 'family reunification'. Think about it for a minute. If one of our newest citizens decides to bring both his 80+ year old granparents to the US, we will get two people who have probably received minimal if any medical care all their lives and have all sorts of problems. We will now be obligated to treat all the problems no matter how much it costs. And these will be people who have never paid
one dime into they system. What do you think will happen if they need to go into a nursing home? Who do you think is going to pay the bill?
In short, no matter what the fiasco in Iraq costs, we can console ourselves with the knowledge that someday it will end. Hopefully soon. The illegal alien problem will not end but will only continue to get worse unless We the People put a stop to it. While both are tremendously expensive for the country, both financially and in terms of loss of life and people whose lives are ruined. But we
can get out of both if we play our cards right.
