The Carolinas continue to have the country’s fastest-growing Hispanic populations, despite a slowing economy and a tougher crackdown on illegal immigrants.
According to new census data from 2006-07, South Carolina ranked first among states in per capita growth, North Carolina was third, with Tennessee between them.
The State | 08/14/2008 | S.C. first in Hispanic growth (http://www.thestate.com/local/story/489510.html - broken link)
Considering that the Black population in SC is so high and they have traditionally done many of the grunt jobs that the illegals are doing in SC, this is surprising to me. Usually the illegal aliens from Mexico will move to a State that has a small underclass because they need the illegals to do the dirty work.
In South Caolina there is already a large black underclass of poorly educated and low skilled workers who have been doin these dirty jobs for years. Are the the Blacks in SC being fired so employers can hire the harder woking illegal aliens?
So many of the posters here claim that they are in favor of law and order, but not against legal immigration and certainly not Hispanics in general. However, it seems to me that this post proves that many of the posters here are motivated not by law and order, but by xenophobia. Furthermore, the article says that South Carolina is first in HISPANIC immigration, not illegal immigration. Why do posters here assume that Hispanic and illegal immigrant are interchangeable terms?

First of all- the MSM seldom separates legal from illegal immigration.
I guess you neglected to read the entire article where Hector admits to being here illegally.
You obviously also neglected to read the parts of the article where it says 4,700 illegal aliens have been placed in deportation proceedings since 2006.
There are other mentionings about "illegal" in the article-but I think you get the point.
Guess you chose to "overlook" that. Maybe you should read the entire article before you come in here shouting your false xenophobia charges.
oneworld, there was an article in today's paper showing how the hispanic population has risen from 29% to 39% in Dallas County since 2000. Don't you think the reason is because of illegal immigration?

It could also be due to legal immigration.
