You people always change what the posts are about. It was about learning spanish and not about being for or against illegal immigration. I am against it just because the United States cannot take that many but i am for learning spanish to get to know some huge part of the American culture wich is the hispanic, that numbers about fifty million people who are all legal and also speak english. **** nobody talking about those other 7 million recent illegal immigrants go to another thread for that.

There should be no preference for one foreign language over another. There are many foreign languages and it's worth while to learn any one of them. People are objecting to the shoving of one particular foreign language down our throats.

No one believes it's wrong to learn foreign languages but the total emphasis on just one makes no sense.

No one should have to learn foreign languages to get to know people who come here who refuse to learn English -- and if they are all legal and can also speak English then there is no real need in learning "their" language. The part of American culture that is hispanic is English speaking.

The reasons to learn foreign languages: it's good for the brain, it's necessary if you want to study foreign literature in the language it was written, it's great for foreign travel. Some other reasons would be to read scientific research of other nations, international business, you want to be a diplomat and live in a foreign country, or be an international spy, or translator.

If a person wants to or needs to........there's never been a problem.

The language of the USA is English...............not Spanish or any other tongue.

Besides: English is the lingua franca of the world; aviation, diplomacy, science, etc. In another era it was French, prior to that, Latin. I am sure that another tongue will supplant English but probably not for another 50-100 years.
