No not at all unless you want to keep the US as a mono-lingual nation forever. Immigrants have been coming to America forever & in case you didn't notice it a lot of our cities and states are named in Spanish.
The xenophobic fear about keeping the English language is that ! Xenophobic and you can't avoid Spanish on a Continent where the vast majority of speakers speak Spanish !
What's wrong with being a mono-lingual nation? It's actually a plus because we can all communicate with one another. Ever heard of the Tower of Babel? Why would anyone want that? Immigrants are supposed to assimilate to us not the other way around. It is mostly in the southwest where you see cities with Spanish names. Last I looked we have 50 states and most aren't in the southwest. There is nothing xenophobic about wanting our national de facto language of English to be official as a part of our identity and culture as a nation. That doesn't restrict anyone from speaking another language. We aren't a continent we are a country so your point is moot. What other country's citizens speak on this continent is irrelevant. Canada and the U.S. are mostly English speaking countries.
In the USA we should fly only one flag and speak only one language. Nothing wrong with knowing another language, but our Constitution clearly says "We The People", not "Nosotros las Personas"!

As a Cuban immigrant who has lived in Miami, FL for one year and whose family gave a great education, I totally agree with you and I feel embarrassed of being a Cuban immigrant every time something like this takes place in this country. That is why ever since I got here I have been refusing to speak Spanish, instead, I have been taking English classes and my English has improved a lot. I would have been very frustrated if I were a non Spanish speaker and would have been treated the way the lady on the video was.
I strongly believe that every problem has a root and this has clearly been allowed by the american government for years. CAN SOMEONE HERE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY ????????????????????????????????
Canada (just putting an example) is a nation that supports immigration as well, but the immigrants who decide to stay must speak English or take a plane back home. That is what America should be doing.!

The vast majority of speakers on the North American continent speak ENGLISH. US and Canada together have more people than Central America. Not xenophobic at all. We want to keep our culture; not be overrun by illiterate peasants.
