LOS ANGELES — Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who was recently given authority to oversee the city’s anti-gang programs, unveiled the outline of his $24 million gang-fighting strategy Monday during his third “State of the City” address.
The speech at LAPD headquarters capped two months of debate over how the city should best tackle gang prevention and intervention programs.
Re-enforcing his commitment to public safety at a time when the city is facing a projected $406 million deficit and higher trash fees, Villaraigosa gave his speech surrounded by police officers and firefighters.
“Public safety is the first obligation of government. When you don’t have safe streets, everything falls apart,” Villaraigosa said. “People become isolated. Kids turn into prisoners. Jobs evaporate. Families struggle just to survive. Public safety is the foundation of everything we are trying to build in the city of Los Angeles.”
What a joke this clown is. Why do these sanctuary mayors think that Americans have unlimited dollars to give them in the form of tax increases to subsidize the cost and presence of tax draining illegal aliens? Even Chicago's mayor Daley has finally seen the light (after being sued by DHS) and allowed ICE to start cleaning up Chicago.
He is truly delusional if he believes gangs are the only problem LA needs to address. LA has had a gang problem for years. They need to tackle the illegal alien invasion if they really want to improve that city and reduce their budget deficit. Of course, Tony “we clean your toilets” Villaraigosa, would NEVER admit to illegal aliens being a drain on tax funds.

as an LA resident i would say that the GANG problem is paramount among issues to be adressed. and within this crackdown on gangs, citizenship should be asked. but you guys follishly compound illegals with gang members.
