Gordon injected a moment of drama into his speech by inviting the widow of a Phoenix police officer killed last year by an illegal immigrant to join him at the podium and address the conference.
Julie Erfle, whose husband Nick was shot and killed by a man who had returned to the United States after being deported to Mexico, said her determination to find some meaning in her family's loss had led her to reject the anger of those who want to deport illegal immigrants.
Referring to her husband's killer, she said, "It would have been easy to say Deport his family; just deport them all. They killed my husband. ... Except they' didn't kill my husband. A fellow named Erik Martinez killed my husband, and Erik Martinez isn't a they'."
"He is, however, a very powerful example of a failed immigration policy."
Erfle said she was joining Gordon in his push for a comprehensive immigration reform

What is she thinking?

Honestly........I have no idea what her motive is. I will say that this is a young woman who lost her husband under tragic circumstances. She is a widow left alone to raise two young children. If promoting whatever she is promoting helps her to get through the day, then she should do it. You will hear no criticism of her from me.

Lot of respect to this woman.

It's easy to have something terrible like that happen to you, and feel a lot of anger. It would be understandable for her to be very angry, but instead of taking her anger out on a group of people, she acknowledges that it was an individual, instead of an entire group.

Instead of attacking Hispanics and immigrants(which with her loss, it would be easy to do), she points out that its the immigration policy to blame.

It takes a big person to do that, considering what she's been through.

Oh for crying out loud.

Can you say "joke?"

Blacknight knows exactly why I was pulling his leg.

It should be apparent to even you that good humored jocularity between the two of us is preferable to our normal bickering, so don't go getting your panties in a wad when absolutely NO malfeasance was intended.
