In which forced deportation will become the next step. Once this is completed the U.S government needs to worry about tighter border security and start working on re-vamping our current guest worker program. The only reason the bracero guest worker program did not work was due to corruption on both sides of the border. Since the corruption factor will no longer be an issue, the guest workers can be kept in line easier. They can come here to work, get their money, and go back to their home country until they can come again. This would help our economy, and economies around the world.
I only take issue with the bolded section. How has corruption been eradicated?

Judging by what we consume, us being only 5% of the population yet requiring 25% of the worlds energy, growth is hardly the problem.

Regarding depeletion of resources, we need to get our act together and 1) change our built environment / cut down on sprawl and 2) start using renewable energy sources. Once we do get our act together in this respect, we will have the capacity to grow for generations to come.
if we hit 500 million people it's OK by you? After all, we have all this undeveloped land- by God, LET'S DEVELOP IT!

Well first off I would like to say corruption will always transpire. What would of been better to say is that corruption has gotten better over the years. Hard media coverage has made it more difficult to become truly corrupt.

This may certainly be the only REAL option...and, shocking as it may sound, it won't be the first 'shocking' thing America may be forced to 'wrap its mind around'...and I can guarantee it won't be the last. Things will happen in the coming decades that NONE of us can foresee....count on it.

The idea that 'America was BUILT on immigration' does NOT mean its some sort of 'sacred right', written in stone for all time. Things change. Entire industries and 'ways of life' become obsolete. Things that were 'unheard of' two generations ago are now 'par for the course'....and things that our forefathers once routinely 'did', today would result in jail time. Nothing lasts forever.

Does this mean that a long-term 'time out' in ALL immigration is imminent? Probably not..the political will ALONE needed to do this is not, at present, there. But don't 'count your chickens' just yet. Who knows what the nexst few decades could bring? And who's to say such a thing may not happen, when its alternative may be a situation that's simply intolerable ?

COULD it happen? I don't know why not. Stranger things will, for sure.
