I believe most of the "staff" of Irvine commutes daily from Santa Ana..or Costa Mesa. Another curiosity is the fact that (as far as I know) no homes in Irvine are owned outright...all are on a 99-year lease from the Irvine Company (huge outfit...I worked for them briefly decades ago...at that time, they held 83,000 acres of Orange County)..

What is the real definition of a "diverse community"?
I'm transplanted from Portland, where are you from?

Too damned many people!
I know of what you speak of there, GuyP. I too lived in SoCal from 1980-89 and; with the possible exception of the Yucca Valley area-------the LA/OC section of the USA is a part of my past.

Yup. Everythings regulated. From landscaping to the color you paint your home.

You couldnt pay me to live in Irvine. Way too sterile for my taste.

What's not to like about Irvine? After 9:00 PM when all the stores close all those pesky Latinos go back to Santa Ana and the air is no longer polluted with that horrible Spanish. But honestly, it scares me that Irvine is so close to Santa Ana (because it is a crime infested hellhole, kind of like Mexico) so when I move to California, I'm moving to Coto de Caza. No Spanish there, except for the name. Hunting reserve! If the prices, the gates, or the cost of using the toll road don't keep the illegals out, the name sure will!

[I'm hoping the SoCal forumers will get a kick out of this one]

I know! In Coto all the white men are working so that their wives can get more plastic surgery, the few Asians/Indians are studying and don't really like the whole "working outside" thing, and there are like no black people at all. Who is going to do my yard work? I just have to put up with hearing - uhh, I can't even bear to say it -- Spaaaanish for a couple hours per day while the short brown guys are out in the yard. You'd think that I could get a white kid to do it for me for just as cheap, but all the Huntington kids are too busy smoking pot and surfing and all the kids around here are at the mall spending their parents' money. It's really getting tough and I might have to move to Catalina or something to get away from this madness.

Well, you're like way too young to remember this but California was paradise before all the liberals and Mexicans took over. The last 20 years have been brutal.

Haha, right? California would have still been covered in orange groves.

That one always cracks me up.
