Having looked at the recent census data the U.S. population is projected to grow by at least another 135 million people by the year 2050 to a toatl of 439 million from today's 305 million.

Think about this the next time you are stuck in traffic or see another piece of rural land turned into a McMansion exurb. Since 1970, or in just 38 years, we have added 100 million people to the U.S. However, 80% of that growth is from immigrants and their offspring. The next 135 million will be 90% caused by immigrants and their offspring.

It is time to stop this madness. Time to have an Immigration Time out.

I would agree with this. I think a five to ten year moratorium on all immigration makes sense --- particularily if amnesty happens. We need time to absorb the people we have, and we need time to deal with our current economy and hopefully get it back on track.
The only exceptions to this would be adoption, and in cases such as the Iraqis that helped our troops but now face severe retribution if left in Iraq.

I'm not sure how legal immigration works. We want to bring my German cousin here because her only family, her mom, lives here with my American Uncle, army vet...so.... we're told there is a 5-6 year waiting list to even be "seen" or "talked with".

As far as illegal immigration, this is our country, we should shoot to kill on all southern borders, and northern borders too.

It is wayyyyy out of control. We are in drought conditions yet greedy developers want to build build build. There are empty houses everywhere with for sale signs on them.

Even if they stopped all legal immigration the thousands that sneak across daily will still take up all the low cost rent options. Certain Cities like Escondido are made up primarily of Illegal Aliens now. I'd call that out of control!

I think at some point we have to ask ourselves how many is too many when it comes to the population of the U.S. What's a good number for us to level off at? 400 million? 500 million? I don't know.

There's still a lot of empty space out there.

Actually, no there is not. Unless you plan to build in flood plains (that turned out great for Iowa ) or national parks. If you lived in the west --- and if you do live in Texas, I am very surprised you are not aware of this --- water is important, and scarce. Farmers and ranchers for instance have been daming parts of the Platte to the extent that by the time it hits Kansas, the water is pretty much gone. Seriously, history talks about range wars, but water wars were just as ugly--and still are.
