Default LAX employee arrested in alleged smuggling plot

Federal officials say the man is seen on tape guiding Mexicana passengers out of the airport, avoiding immigration and customs inspectors. They believe he is part of a larger smuggling operation.
By Anna Gorman, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
September 4, 2008

A longtime elevator mechanic at Los Angeles International Airport has been charged with smuggling illegal immigrants into the United States by leading them out of the terminal before they were inspected by federal authorities.

Roberto Amaya Canchola, 53, was arrested at the airport Aug. 23 after a sting operation involving federal immigration agents. Authorities believe the North Hills resident smuggled in at least 15 illegal immigrants, including two with criminal records who had previously been deported. They all arrived on Mexicana flights from Guanajuato, Mexico, officials said.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. attorney's office are still investigating the allegations. Agents believe that Canchola was only one player in a larger smuggling organization and that he probably was used for his airport access.

"We don't know at this time how big it is," said Louis Rodi, assistant special agent in charge of immigration and customs investigations at the airport. "We believe he is not the biggest player. . . . We are targeting the larger organization."

At what point will the "path to citizenship" advocates realize that this nation is under attack?

IMO, people such as this man, should be tried for treason. He has no method of determining if these illegals are here seeking work, or are members of a terrorist sleeper cell. According to reports, members of Al Qaeda are shaving their beards and entering this country as “Mexicans.”

The chief law enforcement officers of several Texas counties along the southern U.S. border warn that Arabic-speaking individuals are learning Spanish and integrating into Mexican culture before paying smugglers to sneak them into the United States. The Texas Sheriffs' Border Coalition believes those individuals are likely terrorists and that drug cartels and some members of the Mexican military are helping them get across the border.
Texas Sheriffs: Terrorists Entering U.S. from Mexico

Quote:
According to the FBI advisory, each Middle Easterner paid Mexican drug lords $20,000 “or the equivalent in weapons” for the cartel’s assistance in smuggling them through tunnels along the border into the U.S. The numerous tunnels supposedly ended at warehouses in Laredo, Texas, and in Arizona.

Three Afghanis were arrested February 13 at an international airport in India's Kerala state for flying with forged Mexican passports. They had just arrived there from Kuwait, where officials examined the passports identifying them as "Antonio Lopez Juan," "Javier Sanchez Alberto" and "Atonio Lopez Ernesto," and found that the men didn't understand any Spanish. Maybe they were also suspicious of these inept attempts to ape Spanish names.

Excellent points, I wish I could rep you. It is becoming more obvious everyday that for too many race trumps everything and to take it one step further, proof that you can't ride 2 donkeys with one ass. I guess his Mexican half won the loyalty battle over his "American" half.

Nothing surprises me anymore.

And he was a citizen who put foreign nationals above his own nation.

Treason indeed.

We should ask him which nation he sees as "his own nation". We might get a shock!

You are far to generous.

I doubt that we'd be surprised, let alone shocked by where his loyalties lie.

If that happened during WW2, you know what would have happened to him.

Unless they were Germans or Japanese...probably nothing?

Besides, in the 1940s, a good chunk of the Mexican population was already working here under the Bracero Program to replace agricultural workers who were either drafted into service for their country or shifted to wartime industrial production.

And you know what the even bigger news is? Out of 30 threads I counted on the first page, 14 were initiated by JDubsMom, which means she is either a very passionate anti-illegal alien advocate.....or has a lot of spare time on her hands.

My point was that during WW2 if you committed treason, you were sent before the firing line.

Not that he was German or Japanese (foreign). My point was that if you were an American committing TREASON (during wartime) you died.
