I disagree, and would like to see a list of those Asian societies where being darkened by outdoor manual labor in the sun, is looked at as a social 'plus'. If such a society exists, I've never heard of it. It MAY have been true in the distant past, in some places (Egypt, perhaps?)..but in modern times, only in the 'tolerant West', and only in recent times, has being 'sun-tanned' been seen as a desirable trait, and being 'pale' seen as negative. Many societies continue to take great pecautions, even when working in the sun, NOT to appear too 'tanned'.
.. maybe, the people who work outside end up being darker....?? You mentioned S Africa - it is understandable, given the recvent history, why whites are richer. Go to China - there is no color difference related to income distribution. Farmers may be darker because of outside work. India is another example - the richest families there are as brown as anyone else there. I am not saying that some societies do not look up to lighter skin, just saying that income is not necessarily distributed that way.

Even in india-- the Jatts are lighter skinned. I have indian friends and he used to tell me that his mom didn't want him outside a lot-- She didn't want him to get as dark as the lower class indians. I think they're pronounced "Chamars" or something like that.

It’s truly sad that some people are so color conscious. Sadly, they instill these prejudices in their children. It has never bothered me. I like my caramel color; it increases my chances of being rescued…….dark enough to be seen in a snow storm, and light enough to be seen in a mud slide.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . Sorta spilled my oatmeal hahahaha. I change colors with the seasons so I'm probably dark enough right now to be seen in the snow, and during the winter when it rains, I'm light enough to be seen in a mud slide .

You are funny Benicar!
Thanks for the laugh-I need it after the Redskins loss last night.
Well I have been a Redskin fan my whole life. As my dad tells it-my uncle "corrupted me". The rest of my family are Giant fans but my uncle-who is half native American btw-started me out as a fan at a young age My grandma never had a problem with it either. Of course now I owe my dad pizza and beer as we have standing bets when the two teams play.
Tell that to some Native American Indians wearing Redskins football jackets, etc.
Maybe when the team is winning it ain't racist.........
