IMO, the OP threw down the gauntlet when he posted this:

You should check out the LA forum for Kingofthehill's photo threads. I love his/her photography, it does a lot to capture the diversity that I love, in the "cesspool"(according to some of you) that is LA.
That statement is designed to draw a reaction and it did.

I'll tell you exactly why, although you won't like the answer.

Those of you with an apologist attitude toward illegal immigration refuse to differentiate between legal and illegal immigration. Thus when one of you posts regarding anything having to do with legal immigrants, you do so with that smug sort of "immigrants aren't as bad as YOU ALL make them out to be" attitude.

It matters not one whit how often we draw the line between legal and illegal immigrants, apologists insist on lumping them together as if the only difference between the two lies in OUR OWN xenophobic attitudes, not in the legality of the issue.

I don't see that HSG turned the issue of the celebration in Little Ethiopia into a negative. He merely made a comment about the sad state of the rest of Lost Angeles in general. That in no way negates the joy that is Little Ethiopia--unless you allow it to do so.

it is the immigration thread, not the illegal immigration thread. I think this is a positive post, so why bring up illegals from mexico? totally different situation.

Thanks J, that's what I wondered as well. It just seems like there is so much negativity on this forum, whether it's about legal or illegal immigrants, there's negativity about immigrants period. Not only about immigrants but also from the country they come from. Anytime someone tries to post something positive, they get jumped on for it.

This post was trying to be a positive one.
I remember Blacknight suggested this forum become "illegal immigration" since thats what most of the posts were about. The moderators didn't seem to want to do that, so I thought since the topic is still pretty broad, I'd share some positives of general immigration.

I was also wondering to myself how long until some flipped it back to illegal immigration. I predicted that, and no lie, I predicted Macmeal's "genital mutilation" comment(I think its his favorite argument).

Anyways, relax. Just showing a good side of immigration, and what it can offer. Not trying to make a statement, or even start a discussion, on legal vs illegal immigration.

I just want to appreciate the benefit of living in our diverse country. Without the politics.

Im tired of going over all the ugliness in the world, and filtering out the ones that involve illegals and Hispanics. But thats what this forum is about, so post away. There is plenty of crimes, and there will always be plenty of crimes.
Theres a lot of sick people out there. Regardless of ethnicity, race, culture, legal status, etc.

I want to counter that with some good stuff, because with as many bad people there is out there, theres a lot more good people. Regardless of ethnicity, race, culture, legal status, etc.

For some, but for others we see invaders, regardless of whether or not they have documents.

Perhaps because the mainstream media does enough immigration cheerleading, and so forums like this one allow another point of view. At this point, it's fairly obvious to regular Americans that we're in a demographics war, and it's not a matter of worrying about whether somebody is "documented" or not -- the end result is the same.
