More than 11,700 Mexican children and teenagers tried to cross the US border alone and were sent back to their native country in the first seven months of this year, Mexican migration officials said Wednesday, reported dpa.
The figure was released as Mexican officials signed two agreements with the UN Children's Fund (Unicef) to protect migrant children.
The country is a transit area for hundreds of thousands of Central Americans trying to get to the United States every year. According to Mexico's National Migration Institute, 2,503 unaccompanied foreign children and teenagers were intercepted from January to July in Mexican territory.
In 2007, the United States repatriated 17,553 Mexican minors who crossed the common border unaccompanied, as well as a further 17,993 who did so with their relatives, the Mexican Interior Ministry said.

Though they are minors the numbers are surprisingly low.

Low? Where the hell are their so called parents? It's mind boggling that minor children are allowed to venture into a foreign country alone. Could it be that this just more of the great divide in terms of cultural differences?

Doesn't say much for the "family values". Many of these parents turn their children over to smugglers, even young daughters, knowing that they'll be raped and used to carry drugs and exposed to some of the worst people they could ever run into.

Exactly. In light of the fact that they can't feed or take care of themselves, you would think they would practice self control, abstinence or birth control. To continue to procreate irresponsibility at astronomical rates seems to be part of their insanity.

Keep in mind no labor law's and if so they are nothing like America and never enforced .

Even child "brides, grooms" isn't rare .
It's a whole diff world than America as far as children are concerned.

Just kidding you Luiso.

I know that you have a deeper insight than myself in many of these instances.

It's those cultural differences that many on this board get cranky about when mentioned.
