A Cuban migrant died Wednesday morning after Customs and Border Protection agents intercepted the vessel he was traveling on.
The man suffered head injuries during a chase involving three vessels carrying 33 Cuban migrants and seven smuggling suspects and U.S. Coast Guard units, said Nick Ameen, a Coast Guard spokesman.
The chase began at 11 p.m. Tuesday between 40 and 50 miles south of Key Largo when a patrolling Customs and Border aircraft discovered the three boats in the water. A 45-minute chase involving several Coast Guard vessels and the aircraft followed.
Officials said the migrant group was stopped with no use of force; however, one migrant had severe head injuries. Coast Guard officers would not say what kind of head injuries the man received, but they said there was reason to believe the injuries occurred at some point during the chase.

Remember when Cuba emptied all its jails and psychiatric facilities when the ridiculous wet foot/dryfoot policy was instituted? You would think the US would have finally ended this policy after the Elian Gonzalez drama. I think the end to this policy is long overdue.
