Mexican flag ignites hatred in New Haven

Sept. 25, 2008

New Haven (WTNH) -- A Mexican flag flies proudly on the New Haven Green and the mayor says his office has been flooded with hate calls and e-mails.

In response, Mayor John DeStefano was joined by other community leaders on the Green late Thursday afternoon for an anti-hate rally.

The Mexican flag was hung in honor of the Mexican Independence Day.

In a written statement, a spokesman for the mayor defended the Mexican flag saying, "The City of New Haven waves the Italian, Irish, Lithuanian, Polish, Puerto Rican and a number of other flags on the Green at the request of community groups in relation to patriotic holidays and events."

Talk about pushing the limits. This treasonous slime is playing with matches.

There is no problem, people just like to hate just to have something to do. As it stated, they've flown other flags as well.

They send all their poor here because we dump all our corn there. NAFTA has done a whole hell of a lot worse by Mexico than it has by the US so you can imagine how bad it is. Not an excuse or justifying illegal immigration, just a reason.

There were plenty of American flags on our Independence Day in Mexico I was told (I am now in Oaxaca and on the 4th of July I was in Iceland where also there were American flags commemorating the day). I fail to see how this is even news.

Time to close/lock our southern border------------problem solved. And it may be time to pitch Mexico out of NAFTA.

If not for the Mexican illegal alien invasion, I really don’t believe people would be as outraged. The Mexican flag now has a negative connotation. It symbolizes a country guilty of dumping its underclass and miscreants on the U.S. taxpayers. People are understandably incensed. Moreover, the massive Mexican flag-waving at the protest marches certainly wasn’t endearing.

Very true. Over the last ten years or so the meaning of the mexican flag has changed from loyalty to the mexican nation to the current definition of "The conquest of the USA at the American's expense." As I drive through my town in Texas and see more Viva la raza, Hecho en mexico, and amnesty works stickers on cars (usually next to the mexican flag decal) I begin to question the meaning of this once proud symbol and the motives of many of the people that support it in the USA.
