Quick, fellow citizens, what are the colors of our national flag? OK, what color are its stars? How about this: Name the form immigrants fill out to apply for U.S. citizenship. Anyone? What, you never heard of Form N-400? For years, scholars, historians and policy makers have mocked the inane questions on the naturalization examination that immigrants must pass to gain U.S. citizenship, arguing that it tested trivia and minted new Americans who lacked meaningful knowledge about their adopted country's history and governance. But that's set to change Wednesday, when U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services rolls out a redesigned naturalization exam.

I'm impressed kid! Normally we're duking it out on these forums but I have to admit that this is a needed change. (I should know...I had to take the old test about twenty years ago. Now, as a history major I find this to be a positive change and a chance for our new immigrants to have a broader understanding of this great nation's past.)

You'll find that I'm actually all over the place in my opinions on immigration, politics, economics, and pretty much everything.
And as a graduate in history (what coincidence!) I too appreciate the greater sense of historical significance that this new test will emphasize.
