Way to go, Texas!

Quote:
Foreign nationals living in Texas must now prove they're in the country legally before getting a state driver's license or identification card – one that will look markedly different from those issued to U.S. citizens.

"While we welcome legally documented individuals to the Lone Star State, we must ensure that this privilege is not abused by those seeking to enter our country illegally," Gov. Rick Perry said. "These new guidelines will provide additional security."

The licenses and identification cards, which will be vertical instead of horizontal, will also be stamped with the words "temporary visitor" and will list the date their legal residency expires. Advocates for immigrant rights say the change could facilitate profiling.

Under the new guidelines, DPS will not issue or renew licenses or ID cards for any immigrant who is here illegally, or who has overstayed his or her residency. Nor will the agency give them to immigrants who have permission to stay for fewer than six months.

Ms. Mange said the new policy and ID card design for noncitizens, which was approved by the state's Public Safety Commission, isn't costing the state extra money.

But Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer, vice chairman of the Mexican American Legislative Caucus, said the change has negative implications that will cost average citizens. People will continue to drive without licenses, he said – and without a license, they won't be able to get insurance. "It's very poor judgment, and an attempt to isolate and single out a class of individuals for no legitimate law enforcement purpose."

Do you notice who doesn't like the idea...
vice chairman of the Mexican American Legislative Caucus

Nothing is stated in this new policy that is only pertains to mexicans,, it is
for ALL illegals. But of course poor little illegal mexicans are the only ones
complaining.

How come we don't have an American American Legislative caucus?
We have more mexican organizations in our country than mexico does.
Everytime you turn around,,, some mexican organization is trying to stop us
from defending our own AMERICAN rights and the security of Americans!
We don't need to ask thier permission to inact a new law or add a new security
measure. All these mexican oranizations need to go to mexico and complain..
go to the source, go to mexico,, and get the he$$ out of OUR country!

I guess putting angle braslets on convicted criminals when released from prison could facilitate profiling.

We really need something like this in VA. As someone who checks IDs for a living, I see many Virginia IDs than expire long after employment authorization or permament resident cards. Cant forget that most of the 9/11 hijackers had VA licenses.

Agreed. I think it should be instituted throughout the US. It's an excellent way to identify those who have no right to be here. It would also eliminate the town criers claiming their "people" are being racially profiled.

If they are not US Citizens why should they care? They have a legal way to drive so are they complaining they can't suck Social Services or something? There has to be more.
