Irrelevant: the economy is crashing and remember; Obama also 'owes' the Black people (90% of them voted for the man), which does not bode well for illegal aliens as a group.

The DREAMies can dream on-----------till the ICE man get 'em.

Bottom line: attitudes are hardening against illegal aliens and their enablers.................
So you actually believe that the majority of illegal immigrants living in the U.S will be deported back to their home country by 2012 when Obama runs for re-election ? Is Obama the messiah that is going to save America from illegal immigration ? Do you think that when it comes to dealing with illegal immigrants that Obama is a hard rightwinger that will make Pat Buchanan, Tom Tancredo, Michael Savage, etc proud ?

If the economy continues to crash-----------yes.

There were mass deportations when FDR was President during the Great Depression.

In fact: several Americans of Mexican, etc. heritage were tossed out along with scads of illegal aliens. The former probably could not prove their citizenship.

If the economy gets even worst Obama will just pass another trillion dollar stimulus package and raise people's taxes, but he won't deport all or even most illegal immigrants back to their home country. You forgot that Obama was voted the most liberal senator in 2007. Anybody who is that far to the left is going to feel sympathetic to the cause of illegal immigrants because they believe that they do jobs that Americans won't do. Remember that it was liberals who created the movie "A Day Without A Mexican" which painted illegal immigrants in a positive light.

I will take my chances on Obama stepping up to the plate---------especially with the failure of Bush and Co to actually put teeth in the Patriot Act when it was first passed many years ago.

You are going to be disappointed big time by the time 2012 rolls around because here is where Obama stands on this issue.

"Obama said that he does not believe that the 12 million illegal immigrants should be deported. He said it's not going to happen. We're not going to go round them up. We should give them a pathway to citizenship."

"Obama has supported granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants."

"In June 2007, Obama voted against declaring English as the official language of the federal goverment."

Political positions of Barack Obama - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So the day that Obama starts rounding up every single illegal immigrant living here and deports them back to their home country is the day pigs grow wings and start flying.

Do you think Obama would have still gotten 70% of the Hispanic vote if he was just a darkerskin version of Tom Tancredo ? Fuggedaboutit. Any politcian who has a high approval rating among Hispanics sure as hell is not tough on illegal immigration.

Default Mexican Drug War

With the mexican drug war fixing to spill over into our border, and/or fear of the government collapse of Mexico; I don't think Obama has a choice, but to step up to the plate.
In doing so he will have to address the illegal aliens in our coutry.
If he ignores the situation in Mexico, it will open a major doorway for terrorist into our country.
If helps fight the Drug Lords, and helps the Mexican Government, he'll have to wonder if we are looking at a two front war.
Referring to the illegals in our country
To avoid a two front war during WW II we put all the Japanese in internment camps.
We have a new Commander and Chief, I just hope he is up to the task.

Substituting 'Mexican' for 'Japanese' would not work-----------the latter come in all races/skin colors and many other Americans/green card holders look stereotypically 'Mexican' as irrespective of actual race/ethnicity. Plus quite a few Latinos of 'brown' Mexican ancestry are true blue Americans to boot hence I cannot support internment camps for all so-called 'Mexicans'.

Now: if detaining known illegal aliens--------that I can definitely support

With the number of citizens of Mexico with allegiance to Mexico and other Central American countries. It appears the illegal aliens could be 3rd world fighters in our country.

To protect and expand their criminal operations, Mexican drug cartels maintain highly developed intelligence networks on both sides of the border and have hired private armies to carry out enforcement measures. For example, the Gulf Cartel leader Cardenas employs a group of former elite military soldiers known as ďLos Zetas."

The Zetas are unique among drug enforcer gangs in that they operate as ďa private army under the orders of Cardenasí Gulf Cartel, the first time a drug lord has had his own paramilitary.

The Zetasí activities are not limited to defending the Gulf Cartelís terrain in northern Mexico. The paramilitary force is also believed to control trafficking routes along the eastern half of the U.S.-Mexico border.

The Zetas are believed to be a serious threat to public safety on both sides of the Southwest border. They are well-financed and well-equipped and have demonstrated a willingness to shoot, torture, and kill law enforcement officers, or rival cartel and gang members on both sides of the border. Federal law enforcement officials deem the Zetas among the most dangerous criminal enterprises in the Americas.

One factor that may be staying the hand of those possible 'sleeper cells' is that one '9-11' screwup by the Zetas here in the USA et al would blow up against Mexico, to be polite. Attitudes are hardening in lockstep with our declining economy.
