If there were no injuries why the huge settlement? Footage & eye-witness reporters [remember the press\TV were also in the park] show people getting knocked down & pushed. Also some sort of object was shot that only produces a big bruise [mainly young men were shot & showed their bruises to the cameras]. It was utter chaos because some gang members were throwing water bottles at the police. LAPD freaked like a bunch of old ladies & started to charge the crowd. A really bad showing for police chief Bratton & he fired some officers\demoting others.

Besides, it was a illegal immigration demonstration.
Stop asking stupid question. It makes you look bad.
You do not know what you are saying Every May Day there is a march for labor rights. In recent years the theme has included immigration issues. The construction\plumbing unions encourage resolution of amnesty so that these workers can be represented by labor. Also the Catholic church is involved. Cardinal Mahony marches in the demonstrations & if he had been injured you know even Bratton would have been fired.

the LA police are not allowed to ask the status. here is the article on their appeal:

That article is 8 months old. Times change.

If they're with the 287g program they can.

this sentence floored me:
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said the ruling recognized that "turning local police into federal immigration agents would lead to fewer arrests, prosecutions and convictions."

he is basically stating that illegal immigration is not a criminal act, although our own government established that the act itself is illegal. i am glad that i do not have to live in LA and i feel sorry for the police officers that filed that suit because they tried to do the right thing for their community.

you know why the catholic church is involved? because it is money in their pockets. they do the same thing in florida. they point the illegal immigrants to free or subsidized housing, healthcare, unemployment, and other benefits, while providing a translator. they do this on the backs of the taxpayers so that they can directly receive a tithe from their "constituents".
