Default Local family being deported

Speaking no English, George got social security cards for his family, got a work permit, became a licensed plumber and paid his taxes.

He applied for citizenship but says the language barrier caused a misrepresentation in the paperwork.

Then in February, Homeland Security showed up on his doorstep, arrested him, his wife who has multiple sclerosis, and both of his daughters.

Both his girls have been married to American men for several years.

"We're good citizens and I don't understand why they want good citizens to get out who contribute to the country," said Mariana Webb. "I just don't understand that."

FOX19.com and FOX19 News, weather, traffic, and sports for Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky | Local family being deported

It always amazes me that simply by virtue of not being arrested and because they have built a life and assumed the position of illegal squatters, illegal aliens somehow manage to convince themselves that they are citizens.

By whose laws? Certainly not by US law.

If it were just George; maybe, but his wife and daughters also 'misunderstanding' the paperwork pertaining to their citizenships? I think not.

Look, obviously it is sad. But then again, who doesn't hire an immigration attorney? Especially if you are like this guy and financially secure? That he has been here over ten years and still isn't that familiar with the language certainly was not to his benefit -- but that fault lies with him.
I also wonder why his adult daughters are tied to his immigration problems? After marrying American citizens, one would think they would have hired their own immigration attorneys to secure citizenship through their spouses.
Bottom line, this shows the necessity to get proper representation --- immigration laws are not for do-it-yourselfers!

I tend to think that he knew there was something in his history that would bar him from legal entry. I also believe that is why millions of others come illegally because they know that their criminal ties/histories would be uncovered. He rolled the dice and lost -- stuff happens. So now he has no choice but to start over, AT HOME.

They threw in the sob story about his wife's condition and that didn't illicit the sympathy they expected. These people need to stop thinking that we are a bunch of saps who fall for anything because we stand for nothing.

i dont get this. did he have papers or not? what was the misrepresentation? was it related to income?

if this is a law abiding individual who has not sought public assistance, then another look at their file can be warranted.

tho they should be english proficient within 10 years i dont think most people understand legalese or language on a immig form.

i think this guy deserves another chance. especially if the intial reason he sought citizenship was asylum.

there is more to this story.

Yes, I wonder if his problems aren't related to the mafia in his home country? In the article it stated that he did do business with them back in Bulgaria. Anyways, I just can't get over the fact that his adult daughters didn't pursue their own immigration cases after marrying US citizens. I would really like to know more about this story as well....

I tend to think he was in deep trouble and hiding in the US:

Quote:
AMELIA, OH (FOX19) - He escaped from the mafia in Communist Bulgaria with nothing but his wife and two daughters, and he began living the American dream in Amelia, Ohio.
But a paperwork problem's sending him on the run again.

Why would a problem with his "paperwork" send him on the run? In any event, if I see a followup story, I'll be sure to post it for you.
