I can see people being bothered by these kind of laws. However, being bilingual shouldn't be a disgrace, quite on the contrary.
Who in the hell said it was a disgrace? That came from you and nobody else. Gotta love the SPIN that comes from people who think illegals are just ok. I am of Mexican descent and I want ALL illegals out of this country. I want to see English be the official language of the country and any and all government business conducted in only English, meaning no damn interpretor for getting drivers licenses and such as that. English only for ALL ballots for voting for anything anywhere. In the LA areas one time we had voting ballots in over 29 different languages. How wrong is that? Very damn wrong if you ask me. My wife happens to be Persian and she speaks Farsi, as I also speak Farsi. How about we demand that Farsi be spoken by all government employees so others who also speak that language don't have to worry about learning English? How about the many different dialects of Chinese? Would that also be ok with you?
then those people should exercise their rights and consequently sue the state.
We are talking about states in the southwestern U.S. which was spanish speaking before joining the union, in those states Spanish is imprinted and will always remain as such, Spanish probably for being such a cultured
language with perfect grammar, is highly resilient, and efforts to conquer it have failed, not to take anything from english, which is a very
important language.

Yeah, I know. I also believe that French is an official language in LA, or at least it was until recently. The US is a very big country, each state has a particular history, language and culture.

APJ, political correct America has overcompensated to the point of insanity to promote multiculturalism and past wrongs of racism. Before mass illegal immigration we never had a need for bilingual education. I went to school in Tx back in the 60's and 70's and I remember having Mexican immigrants in my classroom. Guess what, they were damn good students. They quickly learned english through immersion, were on the honor roll, and went on the college. At that time parents of Mexican immigrants stressed education, work ethic, and patriotism.

Resistance to learning the English language, especially in a majority English speaking country, is futile.
Within the next 50 years or so, people WILL assimilate or they will be left by the wayside.
English is the the de-facto lingua franca of international business. The majority of those in the world learning a second language choose English because it is the language that is used for nearly every type of international transaction, from business to education.
By the way--NO language on Earth can boast a PERFECT grammar. They are merely different--one is no better than the other.

I am sorry but that wasn't the norm in other places around the USA back in the first half of the 20th century. In the Upper Midwest, due to the high number of German immigrants, schools were often bilingual

You are absolutely right, the point is that in the US, and mostly in some specific areas, Spanish will continue to be part of the culture, given that
English is the main language.
We are talking state and county governments that are requiring this. How about that Texas school system that demanded that all teachers and principals learn Spanish within one year or they would have to find other work? You did know about that didn't you?

I agree with you...my issue is with ALL illegal immigrants and the AMERICANS who employ them and the US GOVERNMENT that supports illegal immigration. I disagree with bilingual education.
I don't have anything against anyone who is a legal immigrant to the US. I think multilingualism and multiculturalism are wonderful.
I have no use for multilingualism-----------with the probable exception of Switzerland (21 cantons); every single First World country with more than one dominant language has severe cultural strains.
Belgium may break up along with Canada for the above reasons.
