everytime this idea to invade mexico comes up i chuckle. thats the silliest idea ever!!!

INVADE MEXICO!!!!!

drugs and the drug trade are problems that have existed for years and years and years. a porous border allows guns to go from here to MX, and drugs to come this way as well.

the US should be involved in MX the way it is involved in the fight against coca and other products coming from further south in america.

its not just MX's problem. to think that is short sighted.

meth use is UP!!! its higher than its ever been. it is reaching kids younger and younger, and it has moved into the rural areas of the country. meth is easily produced. and has been cooked in houses this side of the border for decades.

and as for the weed. we all know the best weed comes from humboldt. the weed brought in from mexico is of inferior quality. even cheech and chong know that. i dont know anyone who smokes that stuff. even the M prefers the legal growers of santa cruz and nor cal.

everything else you say, about machismo and such is garbage.

its not just MX's problem. to think that is short sighted.

Mix machismo, machine guns and Meth and one has a nasty 'cocktail' for socio-economic ruin.

The reason the US should be doing something about it is because it is only a matter of time before these people gain more and more power and more violence starts coming to the USA.

Miami-Medellin cartel of the 1980's anyone?

Now you understand why the Mx drug gangs are keeping their crap south of the US-Mexico border.

The repercussions against Mx would be grave; to put it mildly, if 'Juarez' style crap really started to appear here.

Our military is preparing; just in case.

What if the USA formed a special strike team to go after the bad guys in Mexico?
What if it was done without Mexico's approval?
Lets say someone we will use a fake name. Metal man was on that team.
Would this be a bad thing? What if metal man had a mission to just shoot the leaders of the bad guys and not get caught. Would this be a bad thing?
What if metal man in his travels found out about places where they do very bad things to people. Like a hostel but for making snuff movies and stuff. Would it be a bad thing if metal man killed everyone in that building? What if some of the people there were Russians, and french people?
Because things like this happen in mexico.

Wasn't "Turistas" set in Brazil?
Snuff Films are an urban legend.

Actually no they are not. In the 80's I guess there was a certain market for such things and a demand for turkey doctors ( people who specialize in carving other people up). These films were not just made in mexico either. They were made in quite a few places. Never forget that there really is no limit to how low man will go.
Take leatherhead for example. Rumor has it that while he was stationed in germany he was caught wearing a diaper and baby clothes made for an adult. Had some german woman treating him like a misbehaved infant. It was just a rumor but its pretty sick that any mind would even think up nastey rumors like that.

To OP, IMO, If we surge Mexico there will be a war, and riots in the streets of America by hispanics and anchor babies. Why not put our military on the U.S. border and build military out posts. We would be guarding the U.S. soil and our sovereignty and keeping out illegal alien invaders. This should have been done a long time ago. We don't owe Mexico anything, let them duke it out between themselves.

I agree with Vlad, let's assume for a minute that we have 2,000,000 Mexicans in the US and even if only 10% of them were to riot or carry out some form of insurgency in response to an invasion of Mexico that would still be over 200,000 people and 200,000 angry people can do ALOT of damage. Im sure we have even more then that and then of course we have all the other illegals and the apologists looking to get back at the hated Gringos.

A better bet would be to fortify the Mexican border with a series of little mini forts every 12 miles or so manned by a 1 or 2 companies of infantry, a battery of M198 155mm howitzers and some engineers, medical and logistics assets, etc ... basically sort of like the Firebase concept in Vietnam. We would then have additional forces held in reserve behind the lines to provide the muscle to push back any incursions and to provide mobile patrols along the border itself as well as all the logistical aspects.
