Calderon and Obama meeting, a ray of hope?
I have the feeling that things will improve a lot now that we have presidents in both countries that have a more down to earth attitude and are aware of the magnitude of the problems we are facing, with issues like immigration, drug related violene and the worst economic crisis that has hit the world, it will take time sure, and a lot of hard work, but I'm feeling things are getting better already, what do you think?
Honestly I believe that Bush and Fox were really lame presidents, they never really got in touch with people or knew what they wanted or feared or what were the issues troubling them, they weren't very good to convince people of their ideas, although bush had more success exploiting the fear that 9/11 created and it is no secret that before they were presidents, they met and agreed an agenda that they tried to shove around both countries, which created massive rejection and misunderstandings, I'm really glad their time is over LOL

I think in your love for Obama you have missed one very important fact. Obamas views on immigration and relations with Mexico are just regurgitated George W Bush. W has been trying to push amnesty through for eight years. I hope to be able to say at the end of Obamas eight years that he is still trying.

Well, I hopefully hope, for the sake of everybody that Obama and Calderon try to find more creative and realistic solutions, that just resorting to a remake of the expresident's failed and unpopular policies.

They have much in commmon, too.
Obama has a relative residing in the US who was given deportation orders, yet refuses to leave.
Caulderon has admitted to a relative residing here illegally, but refuses to reveal his identity.
Neither one of these upstanding politicians has set an example of good moral conduct by adressing these matters personally...instead we get the same old rheteric.
I'll tell you what's going to happen travellingdude: Within 2 years, drug related carnage on the border will have come over onto American Soil spilling American Blood. The Obamanator (actually Congress) will have no choice but to militarize the border and then we, as a country, will stop all this non-sense about being "Shairy-Fairy" with our poor SOB neighbors.

your scenario wont happen. besides, according to your cohorts here at CD, the violence has already reached US!!!!
by cleaning house in its military and fed police ranks, mexico is taking a few steps toward better security. it will take both countries to resolve the drug issues and its ensuing ciolence, but thats not just about mexico. the way the US gives billions and billions of dollars to stem coca production and distribution in the south, it will continue to do so with mexico. BEFORE anything catastrophic happens.

Putting troops who are willing to die for the United States to protect us from criminals in Mexico is not catastrophic.
Killing one of these criminals while driving a Humvee drunk would be, though
...assuming the Humvee were damaged, of course.

Why? Do you want to keep those 12,000,000 illegal Americans in Mexico?

I don't see a solution to the illegal/border problem coming from a meeting of Obama and Calderone. Maybe I am just too cynical after 8 years of Bush. If Obama keeps the interests of Americans and the economy first in his mind then it will be good. But if he tries to placate the Mexican President then, no. I believe that most old-time politicians in Washington, D.C. expect our voices to wear down and then they can go ahead and pass whatever they like regarding illegals. Solution to this problem: Don't stop with the emails, letters and phone calls. Make our voices heard, loud. Because I can tell you right now, the opposition won't stop.

At least you feel good, but sadly I think you are dreaming. I too hope that Obama will make some significant change, but with the anti military stance and pro amnesty Senators like Reid and Polosi posturing for blanket amnesty, it sure feels like Bush part 5 coming up. Mexico is reportedly on the verge of colapse and it will be a test to see how we stand.
