Well, you know how I feel about mexico. As far as I'm concerned their invasion of this country fired the first shot long ago. It's a corrupt, dysfunctional hellhole that our military should be invading as opposed to our government and tax dollars assisting it.

Immigrants are willing to work. Companies in America are willing to hire. Consumers are willing to buy goods built by illegal immigrants. Etc. Everything would be just swell if it wasn't for a bunch of bigoted thugs and government demagogues getting in the way!

And that includes the prohibition on various medicinal plants, aka "war on drugs", the enforcement of which is responsible for much suffering on both sides of the border, and which needs to end ASAP!

Whose talking about "IMMIGRANTS"? We are discussing ILLEGAL ALIENS. There is a difference. LEGAL immigrants have every right to be present and employed in this country. Illegals on the other hand have one right and that is to be deported. Please acknowledge that and stop blurring the lines.

In all fairness, those claims that Mexico is on the verge of disintegration are usually made by people who is very ignorant and alarmist, it is just pure fear mongering without any fact.

While it is true that there is a war right now between the government and the cartels, and it is also true that there is a very powerful cartel known as Los Zetas that controls the drug trade in several states, and they have been ruthless killing all the competitors and engaging into violent fights with rival cartels or the government, this is happening because after years of inaction, the government of Felipe Calderon decided to face the cartels and fight them.

To use an analogy, imagine the illegal immigration problem you face in the USA, this problem was created by a lot of years of inaction, and lack of enforcement of immigration laws, or tolerance and a general wink and nod attitude for the businesses that hire them, imagine that suddenly the government decided to really face this problem instead of just smoke and mirror measures, it will surely cause quite an stir!! Although fortunately I doubt that illegal immigrants would be as violent or ruthless as drug dealers.

Now even though there is violence in some cities, specially those near the border, this country is very big and has a lot of cities and 32 states, you can't say that a country will disintegrate just because things have gotten rough in some cities.

I have to say that most people don't know that Mexico has faced worst times, like during the 60-70 this period is known as the dirty war, back then there were subversive groups who wanted to seize control of the country by a coup, some of those were funded and trained by communists who wanted to increase their sphere of influence, back then things got really rough but we survived.

Finally I have to say that I always thought, and I'm sure that most people who lives and works in this country will agree, that Vicente Fox's meassure to give comics to people who wanted to break into the USA was plain stupid, but Fox was plain stupid, he just won the elections because it was him the only person who could beat the party who won for 71 years straight, if he didn't win democracy in Mexico wouldn't exist nowadays, but Fox was in many ways like the Bush of Mexico, President Calderon is a completely different man, and things have improved a lot during the 2 years he's been president.

Now I have to say, with all respect to all of you, that I find unfair that my country and culture is dismissed as a cesspool or as a failed state, when a lot of the blame regarding illegal immigration lies on the other side of the border, sure it is true that 10% of our population emigrated illegally to the USA, but it is also true that the only country in the world who makes easy for illegals to settle and demand things is the USA.

I mean isn't it dysfunctional that the government of the United States of America, gives welfare and handouts to illegals? why do they do it? what do they have to earn from it?

why are they so tolerant with businesses that hire illegals?

how come the USA is the only country in the world where illegals can open bank accounts, get loans approved, etc.

Please, take this into account before calling Mexico a cesspool, or at least try to find more about what is Mexico really like, or what real Mexicans think, I said real Mexicans because imho we the people who work and live in this country and break our backs to make it a better place aren't like those illegals who emigrate to the USA and demand things.

Regards!

To Travelling Fella:

I hope to God that you are correct and that Mexico does not fly apart; despite my obvious disgust towards illegal aliens (most of whom are indeed 'Mexican')........it would truly be an atrocity to see Mexicans murder one another in their own nation----------especially innocent people.

I doubt that will Happen AzBear, actually with the actual state of things, a lot of people has gotten concerned, because we all know that corruption is the main source of the problem with the drug cartels.

It is just like when illegals marched in a lot of cities waving the flags of their countries and demanding things, that awakened a lot of people.

Regards

Hopefully; both scenarios will cause our respective governments to wake up and take appropriate action.

I hope to God that this happens AB, Recently Obama and Calderon met...Among the things they discussed were the current state of the economies, illegal immigration and the drug war, those are issues that can only be solved with work and cooperation.

I have the feeling that also our current presidents are better to get in touch with the common folk, and between countries, I don't expect these issues to improve fast, but we'll be seeing an improvement for sure
