Meanwhile, those who want to defend the agents have to ignore the law and several inconvenient facts. Ramos and Compean said in media interviews that the smuggler, Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila, had a gun, but they never mentioned the weapon in their official reports or to fellow agents who arrived on the scene; Compean fired off 14 rounds from an elevated position, which would have left him vulnerable if, in fact, Aldrete-Davila had a gun; and the jury heard from Ramos, Compean and Aldrete-Davila and found the drug smuggler more believable than the agents.

In a stunning display of situational ethics, Ramos and Compean became instant superheroes to anti-immigration activists. This crowd turned a wrongful shooting (what cops call a “bad shoot”) and attempts to hide it by disposing of evidence (what most of us call a “cover-up”) into a cause célèbre. Ergo, these agents deserve carte blanche to do as they please even if it violates federal law – the same rule of law the activists claim to care so much about when they demand that we seal the border. And when the federal government took up a prosecution against the former agents, the activists contended, it was to appease the Mexican government.
The right thing for border agents

I love this guy.

All the more reason to close/lock our southern border and issue shoot-to-kill orders to any LE agency in the immediate vicinity.

The Americans sympathize with the Agents, because we know it's all about the politics of the Mexico and America. There is a much bigger picture here, it's about giving away our sovereignty and our rights.

Americans aren't anti-immigration they love LEGAL immigrants. We have laws on how immigrants should enter the country legally and we expect them to be obeyed. With attitudes like yours the American people should demand the fence be completed the whole length of the country wherever possible and guard it!

If we reward illegal aliens to break the laws, where will it end.

Not 2 mention the fact that no one pursued Divila (a known drug smuggler) back into Mexico. Just my opinion , but, I think they are hero's. They are mainly guilty of being poor shots.

I agree with Navarette with respect to the fact that Ramos and Campeon did indeed violate protocol by not reporting the shooting. Border Patrol agents are required to file a written report whenever they fire their weapons. But Ramos and Campeon did indeed try to cover it up.

HOWEVER, what SHOULD have happened was that they should have been formally reprimanded by the Border Patrol (probably even fired), but they never should have been prosecuted and sentenced to 11 years in prison.

Yes, they were guilty as charged. But the punishment DID NOT fit the crime.

I'm glad they are getting out of prison.

If their hands weren't so tied fighting the filth at the border they wouldn't have violated anything. They should be able to shoot drug runners on sight.
