Gillibrand’s Immigration Views Draw Fire (2009, license, illegal immigrants, law)

It will be interesting to see if she stands her ground, or caves in to pro-illegal pressure.

Ms. Gillibrand, a Democrat, opposed any sort of amnesty for illegal immigrants, supported deputizing local law enforcement officers to enforce federal immigration laws, spoke out against Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s proposal to allow illegal immigrants to have driver’s licenses and sought to make English the official language of the United States.

But since her appointment by Gov. David A. Paterson last week to fill the Senate seat vacated by Hillary Rodham Clinton, Ms. Gillibrand has found herself besieged by immigrant advocates and Democratic colleagues who have cast her as out of step with a majority of the state, with its big cities and sprawling immigrant enclaves.

A group of Hispanic state lawmakers have threatened to support a primary challenger to Ms. Gillibrand, who must stand for election next year. And El Diario La Prensa, the Spanish-language daily, described her as “a disappointing choice.”

Why is everything about them and their race? Why aren't they threatening and lobbying for better treatment of hispanics in the countries that don't want their own poverty stricken 3rd world peasants?

We owe illegal aliens nothing. If the ethnocentrics and racists are so concerned about the well being of those of their raza, why don't they denounce their American citizenship, exercise their dual citizenship privileges and help them to create a civil rights movement in their own countries. I am so sick of these racist hypocrits who want the cake, ice cream and the whole damned party paid for and sponsored by the American taxpayers.

Hopefully; the pendulum 'protecting' illegal aliens (most of whom are indeed a variety of 'brown' Hispanic) does not swing too far the other way with scenes reminiscent of the Civil Rights Movement------------in reverse.

She is not going to win a primary in that state with her current views . How much do you want to bet she is going to flip?

He has also assured members that she will likely moderate her conservative positions on immigration, and he supported Gillibrand’s decision to hire former Bronx Democratic leader Roberto Ramirez to assuage concerns in the Hispanic community.
“I haven’t been calling members, but when they call me, I tell them, ‘Let’s work with her, let’s give her a chance,’” Schumer says.
