If this program was implemented to assist legal immigrants, I applaud her efforts. However, I hope this isn’t another program to aid and abet illegal aliens.

Raquel Herrera didn't speak a word of English when, at 15, she moved to Sterling from central Mexico.

"It was hard," said Herrera, 29. "I had a bilingual aide at Sterling High School, but I could not take her everywhere I went."

She got married, though, and - 14 years later - she thinks she's found a way to help those who, like her, struggle to find their way in the Sauk Valley.

The YWCA's immigration outreach worker can help immigrants apply for jobs and public benefits, such as food stamps and medical cards, help them find child care providers and ESL classes and act as an interpreter. Other services are available, as needed and requested.

"Things are not any easier [for immigrants] now," Herrera said. "There is this gap of services in the area. Nobody is really helping immigrants become self-sufficient."

It is not our job or responsibility to welcome with open arms and provide for every illegal alien that slithers across our border. Her arrogance and sense of entitlement is further proof that no matter how many billions of our tax dollars are wasted on these losers, they will never be grateful or satisfied. Her statement further justifies why we want all of them to get their arrogant, uninvited, worthless, pathetic butts out of this country.
