WASHINGTON The fence along the U.S.-Mexico border is mostly finished. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Lloyd Easterling said Tuesday that 601 miles of the project had been completed as of a week ago. But Easterling added that 69 miles of the fence still must be built to meet the goal set during the Bush administration.
Border fence nearly complete - Las Cruces Sun-News

Good. Now let's hope that Obama ensures its completion considering that he voted in favor of the proposal.

The one thing Bush did correctly but he should have made it the entire length of the border.

from those who know, it does not take the army corps of engineers this long to build a fence.
the pressure not to do so was enormous. and now we are seeing the results the howl from los pinos will grow to an unbearable pitch and soon. you saw those bails of dope being ditched in the pacific baja ocean yesterday on the news??? this is only the beginning.

Good job... but for the sake of completeness.... the fence is not a "complete fence" because the fence is only located in certain areas meaning, most of the border does not have a fence because its not a "commonly" used breach point.... the fence needs to be reinforced in areas where it is still being breached (especially at border entries).... however the fence is only Phase I.... there is still a Phase II... sanctions against employers who employ illegal immigrants.... Phase III... removal of anchor babies, etc. and social programs for illegal immigrants... and then problem solved...

Before anyone gets too euphoric over the fence being almost built, consider this. Jorge never wanted the fence. Jorge managed to build a fence that is as ineffective as he could make it and still claim that he built the fence. There are only a little over 200 miles of ANTI-PERSONNEL fence. The rest is just vehicle barriers, etc. Vehicle barriers don't stop people. They don't even stop vehicles. Another betrayal.

We did get a huge increase in BP though. I guess that is job stimulation.

Wish I could rep. you on that. The fence is so inefective that the only ones happy about it are the illegals. One pair of bolt cutters will gain entry for anybody. E- Verify may very well be the last line of defence we have. Hope not, but, I don't have much faith left.
