hey Saobi

why do some Chinese students/workers betray the US after the opportunity this country has given them by selling military or tech secrets to the communist chinese government and spying for them?

So they need to fill the other 2/3 with much less qualified US workers (while the much more qualified foreign workers are available).

Result? Intel, AMD, IBM, Boeing, Microsoft, Cisco, AT&T, etc these high tech companies will suffer further as a result.
You don't want to live under a government that runs things so badly, do you?

Have a nice trip back to China.

Well, this economic downturn is global --- I imagine other countries may start doing the same. In any event, it was never 'easy' to work abroad whether it was for a country within the EU, anywhere in Asia, Canada or even the US. All countries have immigration laws and foreign workers rules to follow. It is what it is.

I didn't say anything and just ignored them.

Today I found out that an amendment was attached to the Stimulus Bill: "For two years, banks receiving bailout money can only hire foreigners (non citizens or greencard holders) if they have not laid off a us worker 3 months before, and cannot lay off any us worker 3 months after."

Soon, this restriction will be placed on other sectors too.

Sigh, very hard to get a job as a foreigner in the us now, protectoinist and anti-Immigrant policies.
Two quick notes here:

#1: assuming you were minding your own business; those people had no business saying what they did.

#2: looking at the economy; it is indeed getting rougher for any variety of non US citizen to get work. What also does not help is dealing with scads of illegal aliens who need to leave the USA. They definitely hurt the rep of legal immigrants as well.

Hey, if the OP is qualified, he should get whatever job he wants. If there are Americans qualified for the job, then i would think that chances are they'd be able to get it. Let's not let some economic downturn turn this country into a bunch of frothing at the mouth naturalists.

You mean granola eating, outhouse using, back to nature types? Good god, I hope the economy doesn't suck that bad

I know what you are getting at though, and I don't believe that limiting the amount of foreign labor to industries benefitting from the bailout is nativist. I do believe that all countries will be restricting the amount of immigration to what they can afford in the coming year or two. But, I also believe it to be temporary.

So? I'm sure we are not the only nation that does this. Contrary to popular belief, our nation does not owe foreign nationals anything. You all come here on your own accord. If you don't like the policy, you can find another job, apply for citizenship and wait, or leave. It's high time we started looking after our own citzens first.
