regardless of how smart the guy is, he should look for opportunities in his own country. I doubt that any foreign countries would return the favor to an american citizen in their countries.

Hopefully, this illegal will go back to Mexico after he graduates and try to improve his own country and help his countrymen. I highly doubt it though. He'll probably stay in America and use his education to help other illegals find more ways to take advantage of America.

You’ve got that right. No other country would offer college financing to any non-citizen; not to mention, someone ignoring their laws by living in their country illegally.

As a current college student who relies on student loans and small scholarships, this really infuriates me. I'm going to have a devil of a time paying $8k to attend the University of Louisville for 2-3 years and an illegal alien gets $50k (free, mind you) to attend harvard. If we can't find U.S. citizens or legal immigrants more deserving than this illegal who have the smarts to get into Harvard we have major problems.

I'm going to be 50 in the hole myself, and I don't care. This kid hustled his way through a disadvantaged position, and did what none of us can do. People hustle in worse ways to get worse things.

On a side note: this kid is a Hispanic AND an illegal immigrant, and he's an upstanding student attending Harvard???

What is this kid? A freak of nature? Shouldn't he be out not learning English, getting girls pregnant, commiting all of America's crime, raping women, drug smuggling?
What's wrong with this boy?

I'm shocked to see whom I might potentially be agreeing with -- in a way -- but for totally different reasons.

I'm highly supportive of advanced countries such as the U.S. "stealing" the best and the brightest from elsewhere in the world. This is what immigration is SUPPOSED to be about. The fact that only a minority of immigrants come to the U.S. in the fashion in which we are increasing the country's IQ and the mass are simply allowed to walk in and deposit their newborns .. this is the challenge.

I would first say that so long as this fellow has made it into Harvard PURELY based upon skill -- test scores, GPA, etc -- we'd be foolish to turn away talent.

In the event there is one tiny bit of affirmative action -- this is not an acceptable situation.

So if we have someone who is quite brilliant -- he first needs to get legal immigrant status, which should be granted -- I'd like to see granted, based upon a certain level of academic acheivement.

I applied to Harvard Med -- had a 3.98 GPA from a U.C. School, 99% tile on the MCATs -- didn't even get an interview -- just a rejection letter. I appreciate what it takes to get in.

Overall - yes -- should be deported, but then should be allowed to come back in legally based upon having achieved a high level of testing. No reason to turn away brilliance and be confused by the fact he's illegal. The issue is to fix the illegal status first and acknowledge that the U.S. should be stealing the brains of talented individuals everywhere in the world.

Had we enforced such policies and not allowed very average or below average individuals to simply walk in -- we'd be so much better off.

Why can you not see past race/ethnicity and realize that people are angry BECAUSE of the fact that he's an illegal alien who has no right to receive an education in a country that he intentionally entered illegally? Please explain.

This kid "unlawfully" hustled his way through a disadvantaged position.

Don't you get it. When times are good, citizens overlook this kind of thing, right now, that is not going to happen, and rightly so. He is a lawbreaker. We should not reward those that break the law.

How the hell did he "unlawfully" hustle his way? Or is it unlawfully to be really smart and still be an illegal immigrant?

What part of illegal do you not understand? I doubt that anyone has a problem with him being "really smart". It's the illegal entry part that's wrong with this equation. Criminal behavior should not be rewarded under ANY circumstances. Why do you perpetually (and unsuccessfully) attempt to justify criminal behavior?
