Proponents of this idea think they are justified in denying benefits to these workers because they are in this country illegally, but they haven't thought through the implications of their plan.

It is illegal for employers to hire illegal aliens. Lawmakers want to strengthen that law. But this proposal would undermine it, creating an incentive to hire illegal immigrants.

*************

If the workers' compensation claims of illegal immigrants are not covered, the rates of the employers who hire them would likely not go up when they are injured. This law could actually encourage hiring of illegal immigrants, and create unsafe working conditions for them.

Other lawmakers are calling for illegal immigrants to have no access to the courts. That would give unethical employers another incentive to hire illegal workers. Such an employer would be tempted knowing that no matter what happened to the employee or how he was treated, he could not take his employer to court.

A law in place bans hiring illegal immigrants. If this law is properly enforced, the debate about whether illegal immigrants injured on the job should receive worker's compensation will be moot.

The rampant greed and criminality amongst employers of illegal aliens is absolutely breath taking. If they simply obeyed the law and not hire illegal aliens there would be no confusion or problems would there?

I don't believe workers compensation should cover illegal aliens, they are supposed to be here; period. Let an employer illegally hire an illegal alien, let that alien get hurt and sue - what better justice is there?

Justice indeed. Unfortunately, the ethnocentrics and racists who aid, abet and defend all things illegal alien have ensured that justice and common sense are no longer applicable in the US.

Illegal immigration will be recorded in history as being the ‘Achilles Heel’ of the United States. We are methodically being destroyed by greed, political correctness, and apathy.

I agree JDubsMom. We have seen the death of common sense. Worse yet, it seems to me we have seen the death of American pride.

No kidding Benicar. We have allowed them to invade and take over, all in the name of being PC.

It just goes to prove that it's not a white thing but an American thing. Illegals have come in and undermined the American working structure by underbiding average/normal pay with low wage/no benefits work. It isn't that Americans wont do the work, it's just that not one American will work hard in a job that doesnt at least put a roof over his/her head. These ILLEGALS have put NOTHING in the American pot nor do they want to. They just TAKE and DEMAND. They even have the nerve to look at native born Americans who are unemployed because of thier underminding as if they are the bums while driving their brand new trucks. They actually do this....ask me how I know. It's not about political correctness it's about the money that company owners and ceo's are making on thier bottom line. Anyone else who thinks otherwise is a slave to the money and greed.

Illegals shouldn't get any workman's compensation. If the employer is too cheap to hire an American citizen or legal resident, let the employer pay the consequences for it.
