Doing what? Going through the motions? Yes they are going through the motions and little more. If they were serious about the problem they would invest some serious capital into fighting the drug lords. They would accept serious help from the US.

Well if Mexico can't control the planes flying in from Colombia and areas of S. America filled with heroin and cocaine, then what's to stop weapons smugglers from bringing the weapons in on those planes? Or the planes or ships from China bringing in the raw ingredients for methamphetamines? Why can't there be guns brought in along with the epinephrine?

And how is it easier to control 379,000,000 square miles than a 2000 mile line? If there can be no enforcement over what crosses the border because it's supposedly too long, then how are they going to control a 379,000,000 square mile area?

The whole problem is that very violent and greedy criminals have been given control over the border. They will continue to traffic drugs and weapons over their open border.

I wonder how many of the weapons getting into the hands of criminal cartels are obtained from the Mexican military itself. All that money we're sending to buy weapons and ammo but it's known that many of the criminals and cartels are former Mexican military.

Bingo

We sell their military and police plenty of weapons that end up missing.

What would happen if a dual citizen Mexican-American tried to buy weapons and was turned away? They would cry racism, they would sue for discrimination. They would demand their "American" rights to buy weapons and their Mexican rights would prevent us from stopping them from taking their weapons back to their homeland.

Good question, time for an attorney to sort that situation out.
