NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Corrections Corporation of America (CCA Monday announced a contract to manage detainees for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (“ICE”) at a new prison in Gainesville, with a total design capacity of 502 beds, which is expected to create nearly 200 new jobs.
The North Georgia Detention Center will be located in the old Hall County Detention Center on Main Street.
Under a five-year Inter-Governmental Service Agreement between Hall County and ICE, CCA will house up to 500 ICE detainees at the facility. The Company will lease the site from the county. The lease has an initial term of 20 years with two five-year renewal options and provides CCA the ability to cancel the lease if it does not have a management contract. The Company currently anticipates opening the facility during the second quarter of this year and expects the facility to be substantially occupied by the end of the year.
“We are proud to expand our partnership with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement,” said John Ferguson, CCA’s Chief Executive Officer. “The North Georgia Detention Facility will serve ICE’s need for detention capacity as part of the government’s strategy to deter illegal immigration and protect public safety.” CCA currently partners with ICE to manage detainees at twelve CCA facilities.
What could be more beneficial than creating both jobs and incarcerating criminal trespassers?
We are wasting so much money incarcerating people who should not have been here in the first place. I think we should bill Mexico for the total cost of each illegal alien prisoner.

Hopefully, most of them will be deported once their sentences are served.

Why wait until their sentences are served? We would be stuck with the bill of feeding and housing these criminals. Send them back the minute we catch them! Our jails are already over crowded. Let their country of origin pay for their incarceration.

It really is sad that we need to build a prison to hold the people that shouldn't be in our country in the first place.
