A panel on CNN was discussing the ramifications of the Mexican Drug War, and the imminent influx of Mexicans seeking asylum in the US. According to some, due to the perilous conditions in Mexico, the U.S. is “obligated” to accept the fleeing masses. They also read comments submitted by U.S. citizens, which were overwhelmingly opposed to us accepting more Mexicans, given our current issues with illegal immigration. If 10% of Mexico’s citizens were not here illegally, I believe most U.S. citizens would be more amenable to accepting their refugees on a temporary basis.
I found it particularly interesting that the same panel member espousing humanitarian refuge for Mexicans, also insisted that “many” areas of Mexico are “completely safe” for U.S. tourists to visit. If there are areas in Mexico considered safe enough for tourism, why don’t they relocate those fleeing the volatile regions to those “safe” areas, rather than sending them here?
Will the Mexican government provide financial support for these asylum-seekers; or will WE, the U.S. taxpayers, be expected to support them? Undoubtedly, deportations will come to a screeching halt. After all, it wouldn’t be humane to send illegal aliens back to such hazardous conditions.
Is it just me, or do others also see a connection between our current illegal immigration problem, and the timing of the ‘exposure’ of the Mexican Drug War? Didn’t this “war” begin at least two years ago? Haven’t thousands already died?
If we are obligated to grant asylum to those currently fleeing Mexico, won’t we also be “obligated” to offer asylum to ALL Mexicans currently residing in this country? Is this a strategy to “legalize” Mexican illegal aliens without granting them amnesty? It’s something to ponder.

That does not surprise me at all-------------part and parcel of stereotypical Third World 'culture' where the tribe is more important than the nation as macmeal has so eloquently stated in the past.
I agree, Benicar....and sort of 'predicted' this years ago...and that is, that when things are allowed to 'fester', the whole equation gets affected. America has always had a generous, welcoming attitude toward the 'down-and-out' (that, in many ways, is why we now have 20 million PLUS illegals...instead of one or two million). But there's a limit to the 'tolerance' of even the most generous society, and YEARS of cynical demands by angry illegals DEMANDING (not petitioning, but DEMANDING) special 'privileges', as a reward for breaking the law; and years of haughty DEMANDS by the Government of Mexico (and considerable 'pressure' by IT, on OUR government) for 'preferential treatment' for its illegals, and a deaf ear turned toward any argument that THEY address "our" illegal situation, has left many Americans with VERY little incentive to now want to "help" the needy from that tormented situation.
Too bad, because like I said, it's always been our instinct to go the 'extra mile' and to give the 'benefit of the doubt'. But most 'doubt' has now been removed, and an increasing number of Americans feel like we've just been 'taken'. "Burn me ONCE", etc,., as the old adage goes...and many of us feel we've been 'burned' NUMEROUS times..
The "Boy who cried 'Wolf' ", also, seems appropriate here...finally, the "people" just got tired of the "boy", and his silly 'cries'....and stopped listening. I see a lot of parallels here...

I have a better idea. The US should deport all illegals from Mexico back to their homeland and seal the border completely. Also, no shipping between the two countries, no planes, no boats, etc. Nothing from the US goes into Mexico, nothing from Mexico comes into the US. The flow of weapons to Mexico is halted, giving the Mexican gov. time to locate and confiscate the ones that came from the US. If the drug supply from Mexico into the US is stopped, our addicts will have to seek treatment for their addiction once withdrawal starts. Or move to Mexico.
