WASHINGTON Alexander Collins has two homes: a new one in the U.S. where he wants to stay and one in Africa he wants to leave for good.

Collins, 34, has lived in St. Paul, Minn. on a series of temporary extensions since coming to the U.S. from Liberia about eight years ago. He said he was aware his status was temporary, but he rarely contemplated what might happen when it ended.

Considering that these people came to the USA legally; I would be in favor of granting them an extension to stay here with the proviso that they apply for US citizenship. Needless to say: such a move would carry stipulations as in keeping one's nose clean, etc.

Agreed. Sadly, our government seems only concerned with assisting illegal aliens.

i thought this was already a topic. last time posters werent too keen on letting them stay.

i personally think its a bit sad to allow TPS folk to make lives here in the US for decades and decades and then send them out when the US feels their country is stable. if they have played by the rules all along, extend their stay.

i think the argument was that it was always intended to be temp. they should not have gotten too cozy and assimilated so much. and on top of that, these people can nowgo back and rebuild their "3rd world cesspools". (just paraphrasing, i am for letting them stay)
